Why is the Blue Comet Train Set not for sale any more?

I have been looking in the Lionel catalog for the Blue Comet Train Set. Its in the 2002 catalog, but not in the 2004? What is with that?

They make things in limited runs.

Youll be hard pressed to find one, only 1000 sets were made and even less addon cars were made.

wow!

But never under estimate ebay[:D]!! !! !!

Hey, If you want one, I know someone selling his.

Out here, on the farthest reaches of the west, I saw a blue comet running a few weeks ago. It looked great. You east coast guys have some “purty” trains. And the headlamp is really cool. Ebay mr snell, but it looks like you know that.

My family was able to acquire peice by peice the blue comet set in O scale. We were lucky to get it That was a long time ago and did not cost too much… maybe 30 bucks per pass. car etc.

I saw a complete set in the GATS in Little Rock offering for $1500- reduced from a list of 1900- I almost fainted. I never did understand what motivates the seller to ask for that kind of money.

Hello Colin ! In 1978 Lionel Produced a Blue Comet set using the tooling from the 2046 Hudson and the Boiler Face came from the postwar 665 Hudson with a Feedwater Heater (Cylinder) on top of it. Even though this set does not have the detail level of the newer train you are looking for it is still a desireble Train to have and is more affordable to boot! You should be able to get one for around $500.00-600.00 with all of the cars included as opposed to $1300.00-1500.00 for the 2002 version. Try Train city in Erie,Pa they have a website and they get in discontinued Lionel often,Usually new in the box.Not always but most of the time they do.Just look around and keep a eye out for one. they’re around.Hope this helps …Keith.
