WHY?

Why are you involved in model railroading? I do it for fun and for a challenge. What about you?

I do it because it prevents me from giving in to an obsessive desire to ask other people why they’re involved in the hobby.

Andre

Oh ok, I give in…

I do it for 2 reasons…

One: it gave me somehting to use to bond with my new new step son when he was 3. (he is almost 5 now).

Two.: …Cheap Therapy…

John Kanicsar

I have often asked myself why I play with trains and I have only come up with one possible answer. Mom held me too much, or not enough
LOL
Jeff

it’s an escape from reality

Keeps me out of bars, off the streets and out of trouble. The relaxation and fun it provides also benefits the health. The social situations that are possible thru MR is pretty good quality even if the occasional blowhard sounds off now and then.

Because it’s the King of Hobbies.

Because you can enjoy the tech side of things or the artistic side of the hobby.

Because there is no end to the stuff you can buy and obsess over.

Because it requires as much or as little skill as you want to gain from being involved.

Because it’s the great escape.

Hey, it’s fun.

It’s the only hobby I found for retirement that had so many different skill areas to work in and challenge your creativity at the same time. Think about it. Electrical, Woodwork, Electronic Control, landscaping, painting, research, design, and etc… all in one hobby.

And the Best Part: When your done with a project (if ever), you not only get to look and admire your creation…You get to play with too! [:D]

REX

SHHhhhhhh![;)] Dont let out our secret… just in case the "women see that… Dont want them to know that we will never have enough! I got mine going “honey, I just need a few more engines…”

LOL [:D]

  1. To escape my reality.

  2. I love steam locomotives.

  3. It kept me from becoming a ghetto thug.

  4. It teaches skills useful in other parts of “life”.

Cause I like them. [:D][:D][:D][:D]

Actually because I can spend quality time with my two kids, building, playing and bonding. Wooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooo

Tim

Because I love trains and I can create my own little world without the “INFLUENCE OF POLITICAL CRAP”!

WHY couldn’t you have made your subject "Why are you involved in model railroading? rather than WHY? ?

Bob Boudreau

Exactly, Well put Rex

Fergie

because it is a three dimentional art form and gives me piece of mind having to be a full time caregiver.

I originally did not wi***o click this but since I did…

This hobby is great. It keeps me sober and out of the
local bar. My wife likes the fact that she knows where I
am 99% of the time. And my kids can learn several
new skills and have fun playing with dad.

I give up, Why?

I wish it could keep my father out of the friggin’ bar. But he’s far beyond conversion.

Cheap therapy is a good answer. Keeping my hands and mind busy help me keep from brooding over the fact that I have not seen my son & daughter for three years. It’sa long story.

During the summer I can garden but rediscovering trains last December at Cincinati Gas & Electric’s annual Christmas exhibit was great. Right now I am waiting for the basement to be finished. (a few more weeks) then I can start on my first layout in 30 years and keep my hands busy.

Because a nice cheap hobby that’s not too technical and doesn’t require any artistic ability.
