Amtrak’s Winter Park Express has expanded the train size and days of operation as of January 9, 2025. Train now has 7 Superliners; six coaches and a mid-train lounge car. Three of the coaches have lower level ADA accessible accommodations. Trains departs Denver Union Station, Denver, CO, from track 5 at 7:00 AM on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays - more days of operation and expanded train size started January 9th.
Winter Park Express (WPE) now stops at Winter Park Ski Resort and Fraser, CO. Thanks to Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) asking Amtrak to offer WPE passengers the Fraser stop where local bus connections are available (Bustang and The Lift local FREE bus). Fraser stop is used by the California Zephyr trains 5 & 6. Whereas, the Winter Park Ski Resort stop west side of Moffat Tunnel is only a seasonal train stop.
Station is open daily with toilet facility and small heated waiting area.
Amtrak 146 and 75, P42DC, units handled the Winter Park Express January 12, 2025 at Fraser, Colorado, USA.
Welcome to the forum, COZephyr1!
Also, thanks for the photos! Very interesting.
First time I have seen a locomotive with it coupler wrapped up.
I was thinking about asking about that. Is there a problem with ice and snow clogging it up? From Balt’s comment, it apparently isn’t a common problem.
