Woodland Scenics Blended Turf

I have recently purchased Woodland Scenics Blended Turf ground cover and was wondering how to put it on my layout. The first time I placed white glue on the plywood then put on the fine(almots powder like) turf. After I had let it dry overnight I came back and not very much had stayed glued to the plywood[:(!]. Have I maybe put too much on??? Please help me find a way to make this ground cover stay in place !!![;)]

I have had good luck with this product. I spread the turf on the surface to be covered.
I the spray the area with water with a few drops of detergent in it, then spray the area with Woodland glue or a 50/50 mix of Elmers White glue and water.
This has worked well for me.
Another trick I learned was if the area was not level and the turf will not cover well I pre wet the area with my water mix . This seems to hold the turf from sliding down hill.
The main thing is to keep the spray fine and the nozzel back so that the turf is not displaced.

The steps I take to cover a surface with Woodland Scenics turf, or other brands are:

  1. Paint the surface a dirt color or a dark green color. It helps keep the bare surface from showing through the turf. I go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a can of latex paint they have on sale. Make sure it’s flat not semi gloss or gloss. In the stack of sale paint, there’s usually some ugly colors of dark brown or green available - they work fine for scenery.

  2. Some people sprinkle the turf right on the wet paint. I usually have other things going on, and don’t do that. After the paint has dried, I brush on a layer of Woodland Scenics scenery cement then sprinkle on the turf.

  3. After it dries, spray more scenery cement on the foam – really soak it. If you’re close to something you don’t want to get soaked with the cement, soak the turf with an eyedropper. Look at things when everything is wet. If you see any bare surfaces, sprinkle on more turf, it should soak up some glue and stick.

  4. The nice thing about working with the Woodland Scenics ground foams, is that they can be applied in layers. If you want to add some coarse foam just sprinkle it on over the turf and spray it with glue. Just play with it, it’s easy once you get some confidence with it.
