Woodland Scenics new field system

Just got the November MR and noticed an add by WS about their new feild system. Looked at their site and some of the products are ones that have been around a long time but others are new. What got me though is the pic in MR, real hard to tell it is a model. I want to take a class from whoever did that work!

Have you ever seen the Woodland Scenics catalog? I don’t know if they still publish a paper one, but I got one a few years ago and it is FILLED with images like that. It all looks perfectly real.

Just saw it myself. Well that is almost to real if their is such a thing. I have never used static grass. But might try that new static gun and see what it can do. Thanks for the heads up.

I don’t know what the WS applicator costs, but some of them can give you sticker shock before you even power them up. A cheap GrassTech model is fine, or you can make one from an electric flyswatter for a few dollars.

The key is to get a mix of colors and lengths for your grass.

Not to plug WS, but they have a youtube channel. The jaw-dropping videos make me feel so inadequate. I watch to get some great advice. It seems that with scenery, it requires a level of patience and creativity.

They haven’t released a price for their Static King applicator yet, but the Noch one is so ridiculously overpriced it isn;t funny. The circuit is little different from that found in the dollar store electric flyswatters - perhaps better wuality components since the dollar store flyswatters are made of the cheapest Chinese electronic parts you can find, but if you duplicated such a thing buying good quality electronic parts it might cost you a max of $10 for parts. $100 plus applicators? Just say no. Guess they are relying on people thinking it’s some serious high-tech magic and not something easily duplicated.

Edit - I found one site listing a price for the Static King, but not available yet. Seems like the MSRP is $99.99 and this site lists it for $67.50 - see if that price holds across the more well knoown hobby retailers once it actually becomes available.

Edit 2 - found a knock off of the Noch, except the hopper is clear, for under $50 on ebay.Including an AC adapter so you don’t have to keep putting batteries in it.

I was at a train show last Saturday and a guy was selling homemade flyswatter applicators for $45.00EA. Really! What was he thinking?

Made a couple of fly swater ones myself, very easy and it can be done without souldering even.

wow, didn’t know anyone replied, no email sent to me.
