Work continues to repair flooded Colorado rail lines

Yesterday this site said that Amtrak was bussing passengers between Denver and Grand Junction. Have they now switched to buses to Cheyenne and then the (considerably faster) Overland Route?

Wife and I are scheduled to depart Chicago on the Zephyr on October 1, traveling to Sacramento. We’d hate to miss the Colorado scenery, but if the only way to complete the trip is to detour via Cheyenne and the Overland Route, so be it. We appreciate what everyone is doing to restore rail service throughout Colorado. – Harrisonburg, VA

It seems to me that an eastbound Zephyr will not be able to get to Cheyenne and turn in time to return to Salt Lake anywhere close to on time. Wouldn’t it make more sense to:

A. Bus passengers to/from Grand Junction.

B. Bus passengers to some point west of Cheyenne where the Zephyr could turn (or be pulled back).

C. Use the Overland Route from Grand Island to Salt Lake and bus Denver passengers to Cheyenne for travel if both directions.

I personally like my option A best, because only the Fraser and Granby stops are missed (the bus could stop in Glenwood Springs) and the passengers can at lease see the Rockies from the bus. However, I am assuming I-70 is open.

UP rebuilt a mountainside in washington state back a few years ago. This is just another example of the way UP can get things done when it needs to. Everyone be safe out there.

I-70 was closed but I understand the portion of the mountain which offended the road, was removed.

Are the Zephyrs going all the way to Omaha from Salt lake before they get back onto the normal route. If so its a fabulous chance to sample the Overland route again.
