I started this old Conrail unit about 15 years ago, It started out as an early Rail Power shell and an Athearn U-C chassis and an incorrect Conrail Quality paint job. Recently I dusted it off and decided to bring it up todate with some new details and fix the paint job. I also upgraded the drive with a Mashima motor, NS wheels, LEDs, a decoder and weathering was done mostly with Bragdon Powders. This was the result:

Re: photo #6-3-1014 on your photo account, what did you use for your “See-Thru” grills on top of the radiator wings? Looks good! [tup]
They are Detail Accociates 2718 etched steel radiator grills. They’re intended for the B40-8, but the C32-8 is identical (model-wise anyway).
I have an Atlas U33C that I plan on detailing and noticed the similarity to those grills as well. I’ll check out DA’s offerings.

Well I have decided that I should scratchbuild a building. I have chosen the Ponderosa Moulding Company of Redmond Oregon to be the first attempt. Although not 100% faithful represenation of the actual building it will be an accurate model of this type of structure.The inside of the building will be against the esge of the layout giving me the opportunity to fully detail the interior. This will include stacks of lumber and other assorted details.

Here are some of my CB&Q units. The FT ABBA is a Stewart model. I applied details, painted, and lettered. The F3 ph IV AB is also a Stewart model, and I apllied details, painted and lettered it too. The SD7 is Proto 2000. … Edit … Correction: For the F3 AB, I did not paint these. Factory paint. I applied unit numbers.)

I haven’t had much time since I got home to work on my layout, but I’ll hopefully get to carving in some rocks (I bought a Monster Khaos energy drink yesterday just for the occasion [:D]), so pics will hopefully be up Sunday (tomorrow I have driver’s ed for 8 hours and then we’re going to the lake).
I’ve also determined the 4x8 is big and takes up a lot of space and I’m unhappy with it now, as I’m starting to determine what I really want to model. so I think I’ll be sticking with it for a while longer, but the focus will shift to my locomotive and freight fleets. Any scenery techniques I want to try out will be tried out on the 4x8.
So for my next layout I’m thinking a Hollow Core door, 80" x 36" There will be a small town with a cement plant and wood paneling finisher, and on the flip side will be some mainline and a wood chip loader. I drew my inspiration from the December 1995 - January 1996 MR project layout, the Alkali Central (I have a Basic Model Railroading book with both issues). However, I’ve changed a lot to match what I want to model. I think the ANRR will be dropped for this layout, and while I have some basic ideas for a new freelance, I still need to change it a bit.
But anyways, here’s where my trackplan is at now. the two tracks leading off on the left will head to staging.
Just running trains, less than 3 weeks till I go to college and my layout gets torn down [:(]
