Yellow Carpenters' Glue on *Painted* Homosote?

I realize I just screwed up down in the garage. After cutting the homosote I bought today, I didn’t think and I went and painted it. I always glue the homosote down onto the plywood with yellow glue first, then paint it with latex brown.

Anyone suggest what I should use now? The yellow glue container says to use it only on bare wood (the plywood is bare, only the homosote is painted). Anyone try it on painted surfaces anyway?

The layout is a little shelf type thing in my home office.

The yellow glue tried really fast, and no bad fumes ------ I worked in the room as it dried. Are any of the construction adhesives fast drying without bad fumes? The windows have to be closed, with the a/c running in the room, because it is an office.

Thanks
Jim

I glue wood ties to painted homosote all the time with yellow capenters glue. They stick just fine. I would go ahead and glue the painted stuff down with the glue.

I agree with trainnut, although the best joint would allow for penetration into the fibers, you are not building a cabinet or glueing where wear and tear would stress the joint. I have actually taken 2 painted blocks and glued with yellow glue just to test the strength of the joint. It could only be separated by a blow with a chisel. Liquid nails would be better, but if fumes are a problem go w/ the carpenter’s glue.
