I just got a used zw transformer. and was wondering if some one could answer a question about it. I put a voltage meter on it and when the control’s are in the off postion I still get 5 volts on all the posts. Is this normal or should the voltage be zero? thanks Darryl
sorry forgot. I took the top off and the rollers do come all the way off the coils. the coil has been cleaned and looks to be in good condition.
It should be at 0 volts with the handles off. It sounds like the handles and rollers are out of alinement.
tom
how do i fix this?
Here’s a link to Olsen’s:

The ZW is the earlier 250-watt model. The ZW-R is the later 275-watt one.
It is possible that someone was trying to imitate the way American Flyer transformers operate. They don’t shut all the way off until you lift up on the handle. This keeps the e-unit from cycling when the train stops, unless you want it to.
thanks for all the help. but i found more wrong then what i had thought. when the right throtle is in the full open position the the left side of the transformer is getting 13.6 volts even when the left thorttle is in the off position. I will contact the person i bought it from and have him replace the unit or send my money back. Thanks you for all the help.
