Alright, everyone get well. Fox on the run. Gardening this AM and now off to meetings until 9 PM. Later
cnw1995 and all,
The 500 is built on tradition, and one tradition for the longest time was that events at Indy lasted 30 days. Memorial Day was the 30th, and the track opened on the 1st. Back in the day, baseball was the only other major sport going on at the time. NASCAR was mainly in the South and F-1 was overseas. The 500 was “IT” for Indy as well. No Colts, no Pacers. The pace of life was more leisurely and teams did not spend a bazillion bucks to run. Four days were allocated to qualifications to give everybody an opportunity to run. Also the individual process was two to three times longer than it is now due to the lower speeds and longer engine warmups. During one or two energy crunches, they had only one weekend of trials, but weather messes with the schedule more times than not. While it may take longer to get the grid set this way, at least they avoid the mess that can occur when it rains out NASCAR qualifying and people line up by points rather speed. This year is one of those rare occasions where the field is lined up in order totally by speed. Does not always happen, but it did this year. Thanks for asking the question.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good morning,
Getting hot down here in south Florida, around 92 for the high today again, need some rain.
Worked on the riding mower over the weekend, changed blades and cleaned and serviced the battery and cables, now it will start much easier and cut much better-no more half cut rows!
Also drained a buried conduit pipe this morning, the clown who installed the pipe didn’t glue it together anywhere and put up a metal box instead of a PVC box, so when I drilled into the pipe with a maunel drill & water squirted out almost two feet high! This is an electrical pipe, not a water pipe!! Used a shop vac to get more water out after it quit squirting. I turned off the power to that line first. That is why if you don’t know what you are doing with electrical work get somebody who does know!
Cleaning out space under my layout so I can get back to wiring some switches and accessories.

Good Mornin, ya’ll,
Suddenly every CTT post is being forwarded to my email. I checked my profile and nothing is amiss. Anyone know how to shut the floodgates?
Spent 4 hours yesterday doing yardwork and am now using the only muscles that don’t hurt, the ones in my fingers. I need a lawn tractor. The grass got away from me with all the rain, and we bag because we don’t want the dogs and grandchild tracking the clippings into the house. Victory nonetheless, caught up.
Sorry to hear about Fife Jr. Hope this doesn’t hinder his chores too much around the homestead. Kid’s are tough.
DonB…get-well wishes for Chris. Partying is tougher than I remember it.
Sir James…take notes from all the “sick” posts over the last few months and see your Doc. Dennis has a discount for Pot members.
Fire Chief…I looked up all the goodies you posted on the Pot last week, but none listed in our Rachel Ray cookbook. I did recognize Klondike Bar and popcorn. Hmmmm. Reminds me of the Indiana Jones/Temple of Doom movie where they served boa constrictor filled with live snakes, chilled monkey brains, and eyeball soup.
Doug under the weather? Geez. Must be a train-borne illness going around. Glad to hear that son’s band debut was successful. Bet your proud.
Roger…moving Mount Everest around the homestead will do it every time. My elbows are still bothering me 12 years after one winter where we had 144 inches of snow and I didn’t have a snowblower.
RT…sounds like you’re plans are very ambitious: pac
[#ditto]
Yeah, wut gong on here?
RT = [tup]
Fife & Don = A Get Well Soon card to the kids…[swg]
Brent= Congas on the “walk”, now it’s pay back time…(you know…salary…[:-^])
Like Lee sez, up to 89 today had a spritz yesteddy, need a little more, I just don’t like brush fires…too hot too smokey and it jest don’t wanna go out!!!
Sister & Mom up Friday night, they went to d beach, I worked, had dinner Saturday and Ice Cream for d-sert. They left Sunday AM, be back Sunday or Saturday – plans are fluid, so who knows? Had a great time as usual…
Not much else here, little one has exams, hopeful she goes to the next grade otherwise its SUMMER SCHOOL!!![banghead]
Well, that’s all fur now…oh yeah, bub by Flyers, see ya next year, your TEE TIME is ready…[swg]
Rich
Sounds like sheep in fox clothing to me…
Well back from Sandy Eggos. Meetings were unproductive. Would rather have met up with Doug d’G and seen the museum.
Been too busy to post. Jr High son got himself in BIG trouble at school event Saturday and now all my time is being spent managing that mess. Sometimes they just seem to want to learn the hard way - over and over and over…
Hope all are well.
88 - Big CONGA on the degree! Best wishes on the personal stuff. Tom just stopped by, and told me about his nice visit. The boy was riding his bike when a curb jumped right out in front of him, and his front wheel lost control (this is hime telling the story). Anywho, been spending the whole day thus far talking to voice mails, being turned down for my particular coverage, yaddada-yaddada. Please, let’s not go to Universal Health care folks…
Went to glass doctor this morning. Should you still be able to clearly see where the glass was broken? It’s smooth on the inside of the windshield, but a little dimple on the outside? I’m not impressed at all [:(]
Doing laundry again and need to fix a couple odds and ends around the house. So much for a day off. Could be worse, I guess. Could be raining. Oh, wait - it is raining! D’oh!
Hope Chris and Fife 2 continue to heal and that Sir James starts feeling better. TTFN
Regarding my receiving every CTT post via email. No matter what I do I can’t shut them off. In the last section of the “update profile” you can set your email preferences. I have them all marked “no,” hit the update tab, and then get a message on the screen that it will take 10 minutes to update the profile.
Every time I go back to the profile, the “yes” box is checked again.
This has been going on since Friday. [banghead]
Any ideas?
Jack

Hey Bergie…you out there???[swg]
88 I don’t take kindly to threats[swg]
Jack, The computer just wants to “Share the Love”. [:D] [] Just couldn’t resist, or as Flip Wilson would say “The Devil made me do it”.
Drop a message to the webmaster, they should be able to correct the issue.
Weather folks say it is going to start cooling off today, 99* instead of 101*. Electric company is just gonna love my bill, wonder how many tons off pennies it will take. [:o)] Had the garden trains running for a little bit saturday morning, per munchkins request, but didn’t take to long before we were back inside, plus grampa wasn’t at 100%.
The pot has a lot going on for the middle of the day, but it’s kind of scary with most of you doing, gasp, chores. streach out on the couch and take a nap. See isn’t that better. S.J.
Jack-Dennis did send me a discount card, but with high gas prices it would cost the same as seeing a Dr. here.
Mannnnnn! lay low for a few days and all **** breaks loose here. Not sure I can remember it all, but here goes:
Brent: Congratulations and good luck on that issue. God Speed and blessings.
Roger: Sorry to hear about Lewis’ mother. Even when they are advanced in age and have suffered for a long time, it is hard. May God give him and the family peace and comfort.
Don: Sorry to hear about Chris. Yeah, tall thin guys are prone to it. Will have to watch his exercise and athletic activities in the future. These can re-occur and at least he knows about it and can be on guard for it.
Fife: Sorry to hear about your son. Sometimes, the break is better than the damage from a sprain. Bones heal better than soft tissue and quicker too. Hope he is up and driving you nuts the way only a son can soon.
Lee: Glad you found the electrical/water issue this way verses some more dramatic and costly methods. Also, it is good that you know what you are doing so you can make sure the problem is fixed.
Chief: Look forward to it. Savannah would be good and Kim certainly needs a little vacation too. As for Colin and Greyson, I have not heard from them…are they OK? also, glad you were able to handle the fire. That may need some investigating. I know you mentioned that the guy is not the most stable personality and hope he was not doing it to his own place.
Brutus: I was in the scouts and enjoyed my time there. Some kids can make it rough, but those are not the kind that portray the honor code of the organization. If you don’t get satisfaction from the leader, you can always go up the chain. I have seen that ultimately, they hold onto the core values of the original documents…wish they could do the same in Washington.[V]
Thanks, Doug. I’ll give it a try. I had another way, but yours seems that it would do less damage to the actual traction tire.
HI GIZ,
Well after school today I called Lionel to get parts I needed for my Niagara. And YES they had the nylon gear cost $2.00 so I got 2 and another gear underneath. Figured if it happens again now I got backup. Hope they come for the weekend?
RT, BIG CONGA on da house and da job way to go.
BRENT, BIG CONGA on GRADGIATION!!!
DENNIS, CRESCO is about 2 hrs from me up outside the POCONOS. Close to TOBYHANNA, we use to go up there and fish with my DAD and UNCLE when I was a kid. Nice place.

Buckeye - Another method I have used is with a piece of Fishing line, I had some 60 lb stuff, and it really worked well. As a matter of fact I used two pieces, one to hold the portion I had on manually about 1/3, then the other piece to guide the remainder in place.
Mike C (Cheap Classics) - At the computer show I was working this weekend, I got into a conversation with a customer, as it turned out he was the designer for the Turbine Car. He had asked if I could remember the car. At the time, the race was only on the radio, I can hear in my mind the roar of the rest of the field, then the whine of the turbine. We ended up talking for about a 1/2 hour or so. As he was recalling incidents involving Andy Granatelli, and Parnelli Jones with the car. It was really interesting. Just to jog your memory, remember the car ended up not finishing, due to a gear in the rear end. He also reeled off a bunch names involved in the design effort, and even knew of a shop near Long Beach, that Granatelli owned. I was amazed.
On the way in this morning I stopped at the hospital, and fortunately the Dr. was there. Found out that the problem that Chris had WAS due to a BLEB on the lung that ruptured. Didn’t even know that there was such a thing. Anyway, it seems everything is going well, hopefully he will get released tomorrow.
Better go and get the shipping done.
Later
LEE - OMG, I was just reading over the posts from before and read about your gusher! I sure hope that cable was rated for outside too!
Dennis - you are right. Wife is doing bookkeeping for the troop and should know tonight. Apparently little Timmy has also grabbed kids by the collar and shook them around, he’s a big bruiser compared to some of the kids. I emailed the adult leader, whom I knew when I was a den leader with the Cub Scouts and told him this behavior is not in keeping with the scout oath, which I quoted to him from the manual along with what it means, per the manual. He emailed back and said he’ll look into it, but that he and the other leader have always found Timmy to be a good boy leader and etc etc etc. Son said he wants to keep in scouts but if Timmy calls him a name again he will quit. So, that’s where we stand right now [:(]
Mother-in-Law went home to KC and daughter is now having a little cry over it (she was here when I took them to school).
Big congrats to Brent 88!
Had a little Chinese food for dinner, but I think I left room for some banilla…
Jack - the emails stop when the threads to which you are subscribed “die”, so pretty soon it should just be from the coffee pot. Then, we’ll move to a new one and this will stop too. Assuming you have now turned off that “feature”. I know this from bitter experience.
Ouch - hit 99 here today and broke last years’ record of 98.
Don - my younger brother suffered from the detached lung thing. Happened to him three times in just a couple of years. I think he had some laser sugery to attach the lungs better to the chest wall muscles? Anyway - it hasn’t happened again in over 20 years - but he slowed down a lot too. He is still thin - but mainly cause he continues to smoke.
Wow…All I can say is that if someone needs help do not put it off doctors and nurses can diagnose and treat most mental illnesses a lot better than what they could a decade ago, please anyone who has those kind of thoughts and symptums seek medical help.
Chief , I have heard of pumpkin seed, long eared, bluegill, and pan fish sunfishes.
