Anybody still around? Just now trying this new format out.
Hi Kev,
I just rejoined the Forum. Nice to see you here. From my experience so far this software is sooooo much better.

Hey KRM i’m new here just found this forum last mouth , seem’s to be working ok to me , welcome back
Chuck
It’s working so much better than the old format that it feels like old times around here! And posting photos no longer requires a third party hosting sites! You just upload them directly into the thread using that little icon to the right of the trash can in the reply window.
You’re gonna love it!
Welcome back to those who are new and to those who have been away for a while. I love the new forum and its ease of use. I hope we regain many of the posters who left in frustration over the past several years.
I have been taking advantage of the snow and cold hereabouts to work on the farm on the layout. I will have some photos soon–a few things left to do to get it back in photogenic condition.
I have put an interior in the barn, painted and landscaped the house roof (cedar shingles tend to collect moss), painted some of the junk lying around, planted a couple pumpkin vines and a small stand of row-checked corn, and will be erecting a windmill as soon as it gets here.
Who else is taking advantage of the weather to work on trains? I know about the Flyover and Becky’s station, but what other projects are going on out there?
Down here in San Diego County, the worst weather we get is heavy rain for a week lol. There was only one day this month that would have truly given me a weather excuse to work on a layout. Of course, after me and my family moved I lost the little space I had for a layout…
Oh well, back to repairing and selling trains. I have a complete Lionel O27 set I rebuilt but need to decide where to list it.
Good morning. Long time member. First time on the new forum…
Welcome, mitchelr!
Welcome back on board, mitcheir.

Hi mitchelr,
Nice to see you again.

Hey, I’m here Kev! Oh yeah, this new Forum’s a great improvement over the old one once you get used to it. Hopefully the “jungle telegraph” will get busy and we’ll see some more lost soul Forumites get back on board!
Welcome, mitchelr

Realize I don’t think I really posted to the new Coffee pot!
Still here, still playing with trains. Latest and greatest is I ordered some replacement parts from Trainz because I couldn’t get them from my favorite supplier. I was excited to get my 3370 finished with a replacement Outlaw figure… but the one they sent me is made of metal and doesn’t fit onto the tab where the figure goes. A little bit irritating! I don’t want to file down the tab, in case I can eventually get a proper rubber figure. I’m also a little concerned the mechanism won’t work properly with this heavy metal figure instead of the much less heavy rubber part I thought I was buying.
I also got some armatures, and discovered some glue on the commutator faces I have to remove somehow. Not thrilled, but I can deal with that. Also some minor surface rust on the shaft, but again, something I can deal with.
Fortunately the rest of my order didn’t come with any unwanted surprises. Have a new smoke unit bracket for my 8100 Norfolk & Western J, and a pair of side rods for an American Flyer pacific of mine.
Sent an order form over to Jeff Kane the other day- among other things, getting what I believe should be all the remaining parts I need to replace on my 8100 and 8002. I’m eager to have the 8100 back in action, but there’s still a lot of work left to do on it.
Other news is I’ve been working on helping get a friend’s Lionel 0642 switcher working again. He wants to convert it to DCC, so I made some modifications to it to help facilitate that. I modified the wheel wipers, installed a can motor, and swapped the incandescent headlight bulb for an LED. A track test last night went very well, so it may be time to send it off soon.

I’m going to show off one of my repaints, assuming I haven’t done so already. Honestly I don’t remember. Hey, I don’t remember if I went to the bathroom this morning. I’m SURE I did but…
Anyway I started with this:
And turned it into THIS:
The Jersey Central’s “Bullet,” a contemporary of the “Blue Comet” it ran from Jersey City to Wilkes-Barre PA. I had a devil of a time researching the color so settled on “Light Olive Drab.”
A heck of a lot cheaper than buying a contemporary model packed with electronics I’d never use!
Flintlock i’m with you can’t remember what I eat for lunch, don’t care if you posted the picks before or not, love seeing them post as many times as you like, besides I can’t remember ether

Beautiful as always Flintlock! Have you ever done one of the old Lionel K4’s with accurate Pennsy colors? I’ve been wanting to paint a Flyer K5 like that.
Thanks! I’ve got a Post-War 2035, Lionel’s “ersatz” K4, that I’m considering doing a repaint on. I’m waiting for several things. First, for the weather to stabilize as I’ve got to do my painting outside in the Chugger Barn. Second, I’ve got to see how close I can get to Pennsy’s Brunswick Green. (Two parts black, one part green.) And third, I’ve got to work up the nerve to take that 2035 apart, it doesn’t look as easy as the other Post-Wars!
Oh good, I’m not alone! And thanks!
Let’s see. I opened the little window, but what was I going to type? Oh, well: it mustn’t have been important.
So, while I have the window open, I will once again congratulate Flintlock on a superb job customizing an engine. If the manufacturers won’t cooperate by making what we want, we can always make it ourselves. Our approximations are often better than theirs and unarguably cheaper, too
