CSX not doing the nose of their heritage units is poor IMO. The ACL purple people eater noses were very unique as one example.

The CSX Heritage fleet falls somewhere between UP and NS but a little closer to NS. I would give them credit for being distinctive.

Agreed. I wanted to like these, but I’m just not feeling it. I get what they’re trying to go for, but it just doesn’t really excite me. But hey, lots of other HUs to fan from other railroads.
You should come over to Chicago. Metra has four Heritage units (C&NW, MILW, CB&Q and RI), each running on their respective routes. Iowa Interstate has two distince Rock Island Heritage units.
I doubt rights issues are involved; NS has both NYC and PRR “heritage” units, after all. If the “rights” were allocated PRR-NS/NYC-CSX, that wouldn’t be the case.
CSX pays tribute to the Monon
Personally, for the Monon it should be black and gold on one side and crimson and white on the other as the Monon paid tribute to both Purdue University and Indiana University with the paint schemes for their equipment.
Part of the Monon is being revived and rebuilt by NICTD between State Line and Dyer. An interesting turn of events for those who remember that Monon bid on South Shore in the early 1960’s, only to be outbid by C&O.
But it’s a freight engine. Wasn’t the red for passenger?
It started out that way, although the passenger colors with that wide gray stripe made it look more like Ohio State than Indiana. I can recall what was left of the “Thoroughbred” in black and gold pulled by an RS2 or C420.
This pair showed up in Cumberland yesterday, on CSX M216. It was 1897’s first trip thru here, but not sure if same for 1853…

BaltACD - I agree with you on the dual-scheme MONON thing.
Trackside, the MONON striping appears slightly more gold then the side sill striping. But the NYC unit looks quite sharp, in person.
I definitely need to spend more time around Metra when I’m down there. I make a handful of Chicago trips each year too! I just usually spend most of my time at IRM because of CNW 7009. But thanks for reminding me to head downtown more often!
