a couple night pix

Hi all,

Wed. night when I came home (Needles at the moment) from work I found Loram’s RG-8 rail grinder parked next to my house being preped for a night of grinding.

I asked where they were working that night and was told “twards Kingmond”. So later that night I decided to try and catch some pix of it grinding at night before returning to work (I had a fiber splice to do later that night). I followed the grinder east out of town about 2 miles and set up the tripod just passed it. But then it headed back west instead of east and this was the shot I got. Not what I was after but it looks cool.

Then I went back to the yard where I took this before going to work.

this is another night shot from a few days ago that Iike. It’s the tail end of a westbound departing Needles

…Those are really nice Chad…My favorite: “night pic’s”…

Thanks Q, Was thinking about you while in Kingmond Friday [8D]

Yes, Chad…I really enjoyed being in that area doing our work back then, off and on for several years. Stayed on {then}, eastern side of Kingman at the motel next to the {then}, brand new La-Posata resturant on south side of old rt. 66. Met nice folks there over time associated with the La-Posata.

Nice shots,Chad! Thanks for sharing! That rail grinding operation is really spectacular, particularly at night!

Back in Feburary I got to watch LORAM’s RG313 working on the # 2 main on our piece of the Transcon.

Hi Sam,It’s an awsome machine. I met the manager (?) of that very grinder and got a personal tour one night back in 1991at Tehachapi. My dad met him while at the loop railfanning (both of themj). It wasn’t till he left that he identified himself and invited us to meet him in town later that night for a tour and ride along. Well we didn’t have time for the ride, but spent several hours in the cab BSing. It was a nice bonus. I still have the ‘Loram’ hat he gave me.
