It’s so stunning I’m amazed I took it =)
I’ve seen hundreds of thousands of scenic train photos in the mountains, so when I say this is particularly fine, please take that as high praise. What I like about this is that we are not looking at the nose of the locomotive, so the train leads the eye into the scene rather than making the scene look like a cardboard backdrop, and the scene dominates in scale. I think it might be useful to brighten it a little in PhotoShop.
I like it!

That’s really cool. I wish I lived somewhere that beautiful.
Outstanding…
RWM beat me to it…the curve of the tracks and the river draw your eye right into the cut…
With beauty like that, it makes you wonder how they ever stopped looking long enough to get her built a 125 years ago. That’s why I model the C.P.R. Childhood memories just like that wonderful photo.

That is AMAZING! I have seen many many shots from this area. Where is it near Banff?
Matthew,
That picture is just unbelievable! Makes me wonder why I live in a city at all.
Had you taken pictures from that spot before? Please tell me that you planned for results at least similar to this and just didn’t stumble upon it. :o)
I realize that the sun coming out when it did made the picture exceptional. Did you use a telephoto lens, wide angle or what?
Again, absolutely fantastic!
…Simply beautiful…!
Amen
it’s beyond stunning
stunning
It’s to the west, but I’m not going to reveal the location [;)]
I’ve been there once before, it’s a bit tricky to get to. I saw a Morant photo or 2 from the 50s there, and that’s how I know about it. That shot was at 24mm on my 40D, so about a standard lens length.
Hmm looks like a Road trip aimlessly around western Alberta is in order… [:D]
^ What RWM and edblysard said !! Calendar page, for sure.
Your other photos from that site & date are a great example of how to “work” many the angles from different locations/ perspectives, and there are a lot of nice ones there, too.
Don’t hesitate to share again. BTW,your subject line is correct and proper - I wondered, but only until I saw the photo !
Thanks !

Nothing more to say than, beautiful shot.
Epic! - a.s.
RWM’s review of this is on the money.
So many photos of trains are based on the locomotive coming towards us. This is refreshing in that the scenery just spills out before our eyes.
One must say that if there were no train in this picture, it would still be a very interesting shot. The train is a natural function of the scene. Had it been coming toward the photographer, perhaps the ditch lights would have taken away from the composition.
Well done. Thanks for sharing.

You have my compliments. A truly wonderful image. Congratulations!

The only thing that can make it better is being on it.
Absolutely beautiful!!!
