Adios Amigos (sort of)

Congrats and congrats. You just think you won’t find time to come here. I find this to be a great diversion from stress, reality and etc… I fully expect to see you posting in the future. The difference is that you will be posting at 3:00 am because the baby can’t sleep! Good luck on both of your new endeavors.

Gabe, don’t say goodbye…simply “see you later”!

Gabe,

How did you know that the Montana farmers were really power industry hacks, and were all part of the big open access conspiracy? Hillary’s got nothing on you!

Seriously, I wish you well now that you get to compete in the private open access law sector. I’ll definately miss your ability to articulate a theme and use those nasty big words that seem to confuse others on this forum. I’ll admit this right now - you have forced me to consult Samuel Johnson’s magnum opus more than once.

Congrats on the new job, and watch out for those trial lawyers!

Gabe
good luck with both your new jobs.come back when you can.
stay safe
Joe

Gabe, working in the private sector may mean stress. And I predict you will need this forum and use it constructively to relieve stress, to take your mind off your work for a mninute. We have all experienced the times when we have had a hard problem to solve, be it with our own families, our own finances, our cars, and our jobs, and taking an hour or two away from what is causing the stress often brings a mental renewal that makes our return to the particular problem more effective, often leading to a solution! YOu don’t need to spend a lot of time on the Forum, just come to it when you have time and look over the postings most interesting to you!

FM, I think you are being a bit mendacious concerning the use of big nasty words, as I learned the words contumelious, sycophant, obsequious–and open access–from you.

But thanks for the well wishes.

Gabe

P.S. The other 74 words I learned from this forum were from Mark Hemphill.

Your Giving Up Your Easy Government Job?

YOU FOOL!

I spent 10 years on the outside, IT SUCKS!

I dont care how much there paying you, it aint enough, to give up that gaurenteed pay check, gaurenteed time with family, gaurenteed vacations.

I use to have to RUN to the bank to cash my paychecks before the account was emptied by all the other starving rowers from my slaveship of a company .
You FOOL, You FOOL, You FOOL!!!

OK Gabe I’m just yanking your chain[:p]

Good Luck out in the real world with the new job!

Hope for the best for you and your family, Dont forget, where open 24-7, and laptops do come with wireless modems so you could check in whenever you have a few spare moments.[;)]

Best wishes and see you here hopefully in the near future, Vic[8D]

Mendacious ??? Man -o- man, it slows down my forum reading when I have to run to the old Funk&Wagnel all the time![:)]

Vsmith, thank you for the well wishes. And your point is not lost on me. However, there is something about being in charge of your own practice that makes it worth the added time . . . plus, I have this sudden paternalistic impulse to provide for my child as much as possible–not that the State of Indiana pays its employees that bad.

Thanks again,

Gabe

All in jest!

Good luck with it[:D]

You’re calling me a medacitator?!? Them’s conflagratory words!

BTW - I believe you are the one who introduced contumelious and obsequious, not me. Such slander! I may have to obtain a writ of venire facias on your cecum!

Gabe:

Well, I guess this move will eventually be good for your model railroad. You do have one, don’t you? There is an attorney out here who has a building (I think it is about 20’X48’) that has a layout in it. From what I hear the layout takes up the entire building. Of course I think he a partner in the law firm.

Ditto [:)]

And as Ed said, come back and get your “forum fix”. [:D] [;)] [:D]

G’day, Y’all and Gabe,
Remember that lawyers become railroad presidents. Hold that thought.

I think U.S. president is a more attractive option, except for the pay.

Such a shame to lose such a good poster with all these newbies coming here lately.

Goodbye (sort of) and best wishes!

We could all say alas, but then again we’d all be biting into a bullet too hard to . . .

Good Luck on the outside, just be a little bit progressive … . err positive . … beyond the dough . …

Gabe, you didn’t say whether your new post is that of a paraprofessional like paralegal, where you bill hours of your work to each client; or whether it’s more like a support staff job on a regular salary where you and your co-workers are a kind of “overhead” like rent and electricity, but you can get overtime after exceeding 40 hours/week.

Especially if it’s the former, I’d recommend doing what I did. I let it be known that Tuesday was my reading group discussion night and I just wasn’t available for overtime on Tuesday (this was at least half true–the group met every two weeks and I chaired the meetings in my own home).

The reaction I got was “when we need you, we need you,” but interestingly enough, lawyers respected that limitation. People have strings on 'em, and despite the tough talk there were even some secretaries who never stayed late because they had to go home “to give the dog Digitalis on schedule” and other reasons. Don’t be afraid that your workload will diminish or that you’ll get a poor Xmas bonus–at least in my experience, that didn’t happen.

The important thing is to start this tradition NOW and not later, so it becomes a routine part of you. If you would really feel “put upon” to work most weekends, or late nites and be expected to show up bright eyed and bushy-tail’ed the next day, let it be known. You don’t want to be obstreperous, but do let it be known. Otherwise human resources will think of you as a perpetual night owl! I like what the Mormons do–Wednesday night is devoted to family and that’s all there is to it.

Best of luck. For what it’s worth I’ve worked both for gov’t and for private industry (teaching as well as law firms) and I would rather be in the private sector despite the occasional outbreaks of madness.

PS–Why not let us know how things are doing once you’ve settled??

Allen

Since Gabe is probably busy getting started, I will note that you may have missed or misunderstood the he is an attorney. He is still one of the good guys.

Jay

Oops! Well, I’ve worked for some great attorneys. Most of them “had a life”, as does Gabe, and understood my desire to pursue same.

Thanks for the tactful correction!

Blushedly yours,
