A great offering from AML that looks good straight out of the box and even better once treated to some weathering and body mounted couplers. Some of the parts are delicate and needed some TLC when I received mine, but careful application of some ‘superglue’ soon stuck the parts back on. The wheels are very shiny and I agree with Marc that they do detract from the rest of the finish but this is nothing that a liberal dash of paint won’t sort out. Again, the flanges, are deep but I think they are in comparison with most proprietory rolling stock. I always apply the ‘10ft’ test to all my cars and locomotives and this passes with flying colours. A rake of these would look great within any train adn these certainly look good next to the USAT 3 bay hoppers. Overall, another great addition to 1:29 scale standard guage railroading, and one that does AML credit - keep up the good work!
I have four of the AML Illinois Central Gulf Railroad covered hoppers. They are smooth running cars. I converted the knuckles to Aristo Craft with a little work. They look very good running in the train.

The review was quite interesting. I have to admit that I found the hopper car lacked a realistic appearance. It was “too plastic” similar to an inexpensive plastic toy that would be given to a child. Sorry, my first impression.
