I was just looking on RailPictures at photos of the Heartland Flyer Amtrak train, which still uses the ex-Santa Fe Hi-Level equipment. When compared to the Superliners, these cars look way better. How are they doing? Has anyone rode in them recently? I sure hope Amtrak doesn’t replace them any time soon.
Cannot report on how they are now, but I sure enjoyed them when I rode them!
I plan on riding that train in a couple of weeks. I was not aware they were the Hi Levels, I thought they were Superliners.
I will let you know when I get back.

the superliners by bombardier have a very SMOOTH and QUIET ride… can’t beat it. Bombardier cars are the quitest cars i have riden in ( bi-level commuter cars, superliners, and tgv [ with alsthom ] )
I’ve taken the Heartland Flyer from Norman to Fort Worth once, and photographed it many, many times (some of which are on that site). The striping on the side is starting to show it’s age, but other than that, they seemed perfectly fine to me, but I’m by no means an experienced passenger. The TRE cars I rode out of Fort Worth were much smoother, however, that was a function of the track and not the cars, I think. If you’re around OKC or DFW it’s probably worth riding, as I think it’s one of the few places where you can still ride them and imagine you’re on an AT&SF passenger train… if you’re into that kind of thing.
