Anti-trust bill aimed at railroads

Oh great just what the railroads need is more regulations . Sounds like the Staggers Act is coming apart. The main article in Railway Age talks about just this very thing. You want to see the dark days of railroads allow the Senators to pass this bill. Just amazing how pinheads in DC want to be “fair”. Give me a break.

The flaming liberal idiots from Minn. are showing their colors

Patrick Leahy is a big (D) from Vermont.

It would probably be useful to know the full details of the bill before commenting at length. (-:

Someone recently posted that there should be a new law that all congressmen/women MUST wear in a visible fashion the corporate logo of their highest spending corporate supporter - including ALL funds thru PACs and other avenues. This would give the supporters more advertisemnet for their buck and would let us voters know who owns who.

COULD THIS BE ANOTHER PLAN TO DELIVER OUR COUNTRY INTO THE 3RD WORLD. IF YOU TRACED THE TRAIL FOR THIS BILL, WOULD IT LEAD BACK TO THE WHITE HOUSE???

Never yet met anyone named Amy that had any brains. I am far from a diehard Republican, but this is ridiculous. What is it about busines and commerce that these people do not understand? Who is the lobby pushing them for this legislation? Follow that money trail and we will know the motivation for this, which surely is not simple “fair play” or antitrust. It is more like “let’s try to level the playing field” by some industry or consortium of industries looking to artificially regain a competitive edge.

I would agree that seeing specific provisions would be useful, but, based on history, government interference usually has done far more harm than good.

I love Mr. Karper’s suggestion: Make Congress people wear the corporate logo of the corporate contributor(s) that owns them. Man— we need campaign finance reform so bad.

Why do people continue to elect these wackos?

Leahy, Franken, and Baldwin are on the list. Therefore it is very safe to assume nothing good is going to come of this if it passes. Always the socialists and the RINOs in favor of destroying the private sector. Railroads have competition. Apparently these idiots in Washington are so stupid they are unable to identify a truck or a barge. Yes. Eliminate Staggers. Regulate the freight railroads into the ground so that government has to take over and show Americans how freight trains are run in Europe, where government has always run railroads. Has anybody ever noticed that European railroads haul almost zero freight when compared to trucks? And Europe’s trucks are cutesy little baby trucks when compared to what is run in Michigan.

Or another way to look at it is government run Amtrak. How well is that government experiment in self sufficiency working out? What is Amtrak for profitable years? 0 - 41.

As if the economy was already bad enough, let’s bring down the railroads… Especially since so much of their infrastructure is supported by the government and our taxes.

Well, here we go again. The railroads are the most fuel efficient way to move freight and are really getting back on their feet after previous government controls were removed. Why do these “feel good” legislators have to meddle with a successful business? They cannot even make our country work correctly and they want to mess up railroads again. Sounds a little like socialism.

Patrick Leahy has been a Democratic Senator from Vermont for decades, not Republican…

Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont is a Democrat, not a Republican.

Not only is the gentleman from Arizona correct, I am embarrassed that our esteemed senior Senator appears to be on the wrong side of this issue. Looks like it’s time to write him a letter from a registered voter.
