I had lunch with two of my sales team members today…they cover Iowa and Nebraska and they suggested we meet half way between Des Moines and Omaha, suggesting a restaurant in Atlantic, IA. When I arrived a little early in Atlantic I could not help but see the beautifully restored Rock Island passenger depot at the foot of their main street. It now serves as the towns Chamber of Commerce offices and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a site to see with its separate men’s and women’s waiting rooms from the late 1890’s, etc. This is the only two decent photos I could find of this depot which I am told has not seen a regular passenger train since the mid 1960’s and only about one or two Iowa Interstate freights per day (they said they mostly pass through at night).
Did you eat at the “Chat-N-Chew”?
No, we had lunch at the Main Street Grill on Chestnut Street.
…That is a nice looking “depot”…and no trains to serve. Story too many places.
Item: Really great “Main Street Grill” in Deland, Fl. right on main street. Great place to eat too.
