Bachmann 0-6-0T decoder replacement.

I’ve purchased this little Bachmann HO 0-6-0T loco with the Bachmann DCC dual mode decoder ( running DCC ) and would like to know if this bachmann decoder can be replaced with a mobile sound decoder?
Is there a brand that could fit where the Bachmanns decoder now fits? ( Yes I can hard wire. ) and if so what size and shape speaker should/could be used? Maybe room in the cab roof for speaker??

This is something I would like to know as well.

I have the old 0-6-0t that came as DC only. I installed a decoder myself in that, and that was TIGHT!

I put the DZ 125 on top of the motor. Where is the factory installed decoder located?

I had imagined that either a Loksound micro or a Micro Tsunami would be possible to fit somewhere?

Speaker position could be tricky to do right and get a good sound from.

If someone has done it; please show photos of the install if possible.

I’ve done it with 3.

It takes a Tsunami TSU-750 glued to the cab roof with caulk, or heatsink compound. The capacitor goes in the same way.

The speaker can be hidden 1 of 3 ways:

  1. In the coal bunker in the back. You will lose the rear light pipe if you do this.

  2. In the cab itself (Again you will lose the rear light pipe to make it fit if you do this.) You’ll also have to shorten the firebox to get it to fit. It’s TIGHT in there!

  3. Inside the firebox which is almost perfect size.

I got one of these to use as the engine which switches the car float down by the docks in Mooseport. Seeing that it’s an awfully small engine, my plan is to pick up a Soundbug and mount it beneath the layout, or in a structure in the area. The engine will likely never be more than a couple of feet from the port area anyway, so a static installation should be OK in this case.

Still, it’s nice to know that there’s a Tsunami that can do the job. I may re-think this…

I am simply amazed at how much these LITTLE things can pull! I have two, and each can pull up to ten heavyweight passenger cars or ten freight cars, with no traction tires! I’ve got a Pennsy I1sa 2-10-0 that doesn’t pull much more than that! (no tires)

Try a Loksound Select Micro, it’s smaller than the TSU-750 and doesn’t have heat issues. Should make an already tight install a little easier.
