“Green” transportation in Jerusalem
Updated Date 9.20.9/18
First ten electrical buses enter their service in Jerusalem
Ten new electrical buses were introduced to the public on the official opening ceremony, that was held on 3.9.19 in Jerusalem by ministry of ecology and municipality of Jerusalem in cooperation with Egged. Starting
The powerplant uses an optimized Rankine cycle with efficiency substantially above that of a typical bus engine, and it runs ‘steady state’ rather than repeated acceleration, deceleration, and idling. The electric power is also massively useful for purposes other than bus transportation.
I also can’t stand the smoke and ambient heat from diesel buses. When I was a very small child in Manhattan, in the age before even the GM fishbowls became common, and before I ‘knew better’, I loved the smell of ‘old green bus’ exhaust. I’m sure that stuff was rich in some terribly carcinogenic substance or other. The nanoparticulates in contemporary diesels are far more dangerous… and go right through any current, or practical, ‘diesel particulate filter’… and there is no pleasure at all in having to tolerate them.
The current ‘consternation’ is about redefining CO2 as a ‘polluting emission’ (I think we now have ‘carbon’ emissions for the same reason we have ‘sodium’ in nutrition listings – the amount by weight is lower than the emission of ‘carbon dioxide’ (over three times the mass of its carbon!) and sodium chloride respectively… plus it’s so much scarier-looking to quote element names.
For use in cities with smog or other pollution, redistributing the emission plume away from population areas is probably a significant benefit. Smoke opacity has not been a concern in coal-fired powerplants in many years, and much of the “NOx” business I consider a scientific scam with the great reduction in reactive hydrocarbon emissions that were the ‘feedstock’ of photochemical smog.
Feel the electricity in the airUpdated on 22./2.04/0
We are happy to inform you that we have equipped ourselves with 200 new electric buses, which will soon enter service, and we have completed another step on the way to making all our city buses pollution-free! We will continue to work to guarantee you higher quality, quieter and cleaner public transportation.
Egged announces the results of the largest electric bus selection process in Israel’s history: the Shlomo Group, Pandan and Auto Chen are the companies chosen to supply Egged with 200 electric buses. After a six-month trial and competition process, these are the three companies that will supply the new buses to Israel’s largest fleet of electric buses :
75 new charging stations for electric busesUpdated on 22./2.04/0
Egged’s secretariat approved a budget of NIS 400,000 for the construction of 75 charging stations for electric buses in Kiryat and Carmel Beach parking lots. Egged Europe won the tender to operate electric public transport in the NetherlandsUpdated on 22./2.07/0
The public transport authority of the Amsterdam region announced the winning of the Dutch subsidiary of Egged (EBS) in the tender to operate about 220 electric buses for a period of 15 years and with a total revenue of about NIS 4.2 billion.
Starting in December 2023, EBS will operate the new franchise and provide public transport services in the Waterland and Zaanstreek areas north of the city of Amsterdam. Egged Europe’s winning proposal will improve the quality of public transportation in these areas through improved and efficient traffic maps proposed by the company, which will reduce travel times within the concession areas, and from these areas to the emp
