Is there a better place to purchase MTH parts, or just go straight to MTH? I need a front end for a Broken PRR K-4, and a replacement Tender for a PRR Torpedo that the white metal or whatever casting they used disinigrated. Thanks, Dave
That ISSSS a good question. I’ve been in need of a replacement speaker for a steam engine tender. MTH is apparently no longer taking phone orders on parts [banghead], and the email I sent them (per MTH’s procedure) has gone unanswered. I shall bring up this quality control issue with MTH at YORK.
In the meantime, you may want to go to a MTH dealer nearest you to order that part. Good luck.
cruik,
Try www.purkeystoytrains.com you can send Wiley an Email - he may be able to help.
Fife,
I’m sure you already thought of it, but I bet it is just a computer speaker…
There is a dealer here in Miami FL that handles a major amount of MTH products and they have had Mike Wolf down to thier store a couple of times, you may want to try them. Ready To Roll Trains www.readytorolltrains.com or 1-877-787-8767

Wes - Yep. Been all over. 2 inch “STAR” speaker…trouble is it’s 16ohms…specialty item.
fife,
One of these might be what you need:
BF-0000007 | Speaker 16 Ohm 2 watt | $9.00 |
---|
BF-0000033 | Speaker 16 Ohm 5 Watt | $10.00 |
---|

Call and talk to Dean or Justin, they could help you since they are a service center.
My obvious solution, not seing the tender, is to use 2 8ohm 1" speakers in series!
Wes
Hey trump, thanks. I’ll try that.[tup]
Wes, you must have a little electrical background. That was suggested to me at one of the electronic stores, but I’m not that ambitious…just want to replace the broken part. Thanks for the info, just the same.
More of a “stereo” guy background. I have tinkered with making speaker cabinets for years now. If you don’t find an easy fix, that’s only one step harder. Some hot glue, a couple of 8 ohm computer speakers, and a little wire, and you are set.
Wes
Fife - Last time I was at Purkeys they had just gotten a few in to see if they could ‘fix’ my 0-8-0.
Purkey’s is a pretty good source for MTH parts because they make a ‘trip’ to Columbia at least once per week. I have to stop in sometime this week to get my fix and discuss ‘discounts’ for a major track purchase… $1,500+ for track… hmmmm…
Brasseur Electric Trains is a WINNER in my book. Placed order on Thursday, received speaker on Monday (postmarked Oct 04). Ms Barbara took my call and was very friendly and helpful.
Thanks for the tip, Trumpie.[tup][tup]
MTH does bring a large parts inventory to the TCA-York shows (down the row from there wall display). You might E-Mail them and ask them to bring the parts you need to the show. You might want to try Sales@mth-railking.com or midge@mth-railking.com , they have helped me in the past when a part was defective. Remember, they all are TCA members.
