BLI PRR Q2

Anyone get one of these?

I did and I had to contact BLI for a replacement decoder when my NCE powercab said “Short Detected” 4 times during the programming…then also it ran and I had no control over it.

It might be the programming track.

Is this your first QSI sound locomotive? The QSI boards use very large capacitors which soak up a lot of juice causing a “Short circuit message” (More so than standard DCC decoders)

This is why you need to get something like PowerPAX booster from Tony’s Trains. These were designed for sound decoders with big capacitors.

Once you do this, your train should respond to your commands on the main. Until then you are stuck on default address 3.

Call Tony up there and he should be able to confirm.

You could adjust the address on the main using the old way of doing it.

I have not received mine yet, but this model has a new sound system by BLI if I read the information correctly. If it is QSI, it is a new decoder model without indexing.

Right you are. Whenever I hear BLI I assume QSI sound. But I forgot the new Paragon 2’s use their own sound and drive system. I would think PowerPax would still be most likely to solve the problem.

Thanks for the reply.

I watched a video on Youtube and the whistle is very Pennsy.

Solution is up on Tony’s website. Turn off the smock stack switch. It’s taking up too much current on the programming track.
