Building a lumber mill

Does anyone know where to get detail parts to fill in the interior of the lumber mill I am building? Ozark does not seen to have the things I am looking for. re; Motor for the saw, what to use for a belt and pulleys , what to use for the rollers to run the logs on etc. I want to detail it out somewhat, and am sorta new at this. Any help would be great. Thanks ever so much.

Phils Narrow Gauge sells motors that might work for your saw. See here, about half way down the page: http://www.philsnarrowgauge.com/Parts.html

Thanks for the reply. It looks like something to look into.

Good luck.

There is a company that makes gears and maybe some of the other parts you need. The name I think is, or was, something like Northeast Shortline. Could be wrong… someone else will know.

Tried northeast, and nothing came up. tried northwest and got it , but did not find what I was looking for. Thanks for the tip. Any other suggestions from anyone?

Can you give a more complete list of the parts you need?

Thinking in terms of people, as the logs come up the ramp from the pond, what to use for rollers on the holding table. What to swing the dog and knee on. I would like to get a shaft to mount the saw on and a pulley rigged up with a belt to turn the saw from a motor. Maybe I am just going too far with this, but it would be neat to make it look a little more real. Thanks for your help.

hi

try ozark miniatures,or precision products.it all depends in what gauge u r modeling.i built in 1:29 scale saw mill, got some of what i needed.

Try a hobby shop that sells radio controlled cars, trucks etc. They should have everything you need. A large O ring might work for the belt. Good luck.

Thanks for all your good ideas.I will give them all a shot.

What scale is this going to be?

It is 1/24 G scale

It is 1/24 g scale

You might want to check this place out, too: http://www.tracksidedetails.com/

G’day,

Here is another site to check out. They have many detail parts that are suitable for a variety of scales. The old styled electric motor works, as does the winch kit.

Western Scale Models should have most everything your looking for.

They also carry various other parts to model the lumber-mill in Steam

Cool! I had never heard of them.

Thanks [B]

I am thinking of also building a sawmill for my outdoor layout during this winter in Wisconsin, so this info will be of interest to me as well. For “realistic” operation I am planning on incorporating a battery operated Makita 3" cut-off saw into the rig. Just wanted to throw that out there for comments.
