Cajon from a different view

From the top of Mt. San Antonio, AKA Baldy, looking down on Cajon Pass

Man, that looks likea heckuva hike Nice shot though

Wow…that’s quite a view…!

I don’t remember exactly but the trail starts at around 6500’ and climbs to 10,200 in about 4 miles.

that’s pretty cool Chad. Is it a tough trail? Foot? ATV?

Actually compared to other Mt. top trails it’s real easy. I have hiked up to the top of Baldy 2 times and Cucamunga Pk. (the peek south of Baldy) once. there is a ski lift that parrallels the trail for the first mile and a half or so, but it’s not running dureing hikeing season.

There is one point on the trail (Devils backbone I think) where you are walking on a six inch wide trail at the peek of two steep slopes. The wind was blowing at a steady 60mph or so up one side and it was dead calm a few feet down the other side. You could see the sheer cause the windy side was blowing ice & snow particles up into the sky at about a 45 degree angle. That was the most treacherous part of the hike. The first time I hiked it there was nobody else on the mt… The next time there were about 40 people up top that day and I spent several hours swapping mt climbing stories with a group of 20 or so people sitting in a big circle. It was a blast.

First mountain I ever climbed was Baldy.

Well I’ve climbed a lot of mountains and I must say the view from Baldy on a clear day is one of my favorites, second only to Mt. Whitney (Tallest in the lower 48).

Yep, been on Whitney, too. Took the back way, 5 days, 70 miles from Round Meadow in Sequioa Nat’l Park.

I’ve only gone up from the Owens Valley side. I set out to do the same hike as you one time but my car broke down in Fresno and I never made it. [:(!] Frickin automatic transmission crapped out on on me.

Good picture.

God how I miss New Mexico. That photo just goes to show how scenic the American Southwest is. That looks like the area were they shot the Dukes Of Hazzard, the show was shot in So. Cali.

Wow… I’ve driven I-15 through there several times. One of these days, I might actually have time to stop and railfan, or even get some hiking in!
