Anyone have information. Just caught some of the story, bridge in Selma, NC. Amtrak would have delay’s, but no reasons given.
…Don’t have any knowledge of what is mentioned above but reading of some of the massive delays and cancellations in TRAINS on the east coast Amtrak trains on CSX is beyond belief why people would still try to ride some of those trains. Deplorable to say the least. We should be ashamed of such rail passenger service and why our great country can’t do better…
Modelcar,
Isn’t CSX performing major track overhauls on their mainline through that area?
I remember the major overahauls of the early 90s. Major delays too, then but afterwards Amtrak train rides were much smoother and the Silver Meteor and Silver Star continued to run full.
Beyond belief why people still try and ride some of those trains?

Have you ever ridden Greyhound long distance? That’s, IMHO, is torture-----and I’m an ex bus driver.

Interstate driving, for many of us has become a stressful chore. It’s makes me laugh sometimes when people I know drive long distance on their vacations; then when they come back home they need to recuperate from the long, tedious drive!
3… For me ( and I’m sure for many others) flying can be quite an upleasant experience. I still “freshly” remember my Southwest Airlines flight on a Boeing 737. At 6 ft. tall, I’m not that big a person, but that tight seat seemed more suited for a 10 year old kid than an adult. The flight was far bumpier than the roughest track that Amtrak runs on!
In all honesty, when I put it out of my mind that I’m a railfan, I still say that I’ve enjoyed my trips on Amtrak. The cars are spacious, the lounge car is a great place for great conversation or a relaxing snack, and the coach seats are far nicer than any coach seat on your big airlines.
That could be why people would still ride some of those trains. [:D][8D][;)] What Norm Mineta and John McCain call “Pork”; most Amtrak riders will call it a “decent transportation alternative with tremendous potential.”
But of course many of these high ranking politicians likely encounter few delays or problems if they need to get somewhere fast in private jets and limos. Public perception may be wrong, but it
Heh- you can imagine how I feel. I’m 6’-5" and weigh 250 (used to weigh 300). Back last summer I took a flight to Florida in a 757, sitting in the back row in the window seat, with two truck drivers in the seats next to me. Can you say SARDINE? The sad thing is that the airlines are now starting to realize how valuable the exit row seats are to people like me, and are now charging extra or requiring frequent flyer miles to get them.[banghead][banghead]
Its on Trainorders.com website Bridge is out in NC.

Antonio,
You’ve hit the spike squarely on the head. This is the root of most of our problems, be they real or imagined.
The Amtrak delays made the local news in Washington, DC last night. As usual, the talking heads were clueless. From the way they were talking one would have thought CSX was a bridge-inspection company on an Amtrak-owned line.
I can relate. Was stuck in the middle on an A320 coming back from Florida. Pure Torture! Luckily I was in an exit row (I’m 6’ 2’‘), but sitting next to two “heavier” people granted me no leg room at all! Also, have you guys ever flown A319s? maybe 4’’ leg room.
After riding the Grand Canyon Railway for two and a half hours on a first class Budd coach, I’ll take the train anyday![:)]
Well Folks the Bridge failed an inspection after 89 hit a Truck by the bridge.
Riding the the train is a vacation in its self ,it beats the socks of driving. Thing of it as cruise ship on the land![bow][angel][dinner][C=:-)][{(-_-)}][oX)][:-^]
