It appears Bob Keller is returning as Contributing editor, Now what is all involved in that, but hope it is for the best for him. It will be good to see him back around. Now I know who to send something to if I have a article or something to share which might be useful to the community.
I was just going by what is on page 4 of the February CTT. Why would he be out back in the pics of the top people if he hasn’t. He is pictured right under Roger Carp.
I wouldn’t count on a Bob’s Train Box. Theres a lot changing there from what I can see. One comment somebody did make is that Roger tells people to call for a answer, the rest of us would like to know the correct answer also. Instead of discussing it with the person on the forum where it was asked, so we all can learn.
I get occasional questions by e-mail. My usual response is to urge the questioner to post the question here. Not only can everyone benefit from the discussion, but all the watching forum members can catch mistakes and suggest alternatives and improvements to the answers. I don’t think anyone, however expert, should have a monopoly on this.
Several members of the CTT Forum have inquired about my latests posts. In an effort to make our magazine even better, I have asked some of the members who have posted questions about the operation of their trains to contact me.
My intent is to obtain additional information to be sure what they want to learn is as clear as possible. Once I have that information, I forward their question to Joseph Mania, who handles the Qs and As column in every issue of CTT. That way, he can provide answers we can print in the magazine.
My purpose is to assist the many thousands of CTT readers who rely on the magazine for their most up-to-date information. Many do not participate on the CTT Forum and so are not aware of the answers provided by thoughtful and experienced members. The most we can help make our hobby enjoyable, the better all of us are.
Thanks for reading and understanding our goal on the editorial and art teams.
Roger your post has logic. Without being disrespectful may I say that we the forum readers would like to see your reply’s without waiting 2 years for it to show up in CTT.
Fortunately, I can turn the to the pages of the TCA Train Collector’s Quarterly, when my favorite magazine is on hiatus. I encourage our forum followers to check it out…perhaps join.
Yes, it’s great that Bob is “back,” but the nature of his return is, in fact, public because Carl Swanson informed us of it: He said that Bob will be a “contributing editor.” In the publishing industry, that title refers to an off-site, freelance contributor to a publication. Such a person is not an employee of the publication, but is an independent contractor who is compensated for the articles that he contributes.
If the reality is any different, Carl will surely let us know.
(By the way, Carl did not tell us, but it seems obvious that Bob was dropped from the staff for the same reason that CTT has dropped the October issue: They needed to reduce costs in the face of the changes in the publishing industry and the toy train hobby. Bob, through no fault of his own, just drew the short straw. At least now he’s going to be showing up in the pages of the magazine again.)
