Charlottesville VA Amtrak station parking

Is the Charlottesville VA Amtrak station parking lot big enough to handle enough autos every day? Is it safe? What does it cost? Will I have any trouble finding a spot (for four days) on the evening of 12/23, around 8:00? We’ll be catching the Crescent to Atlanta.

Most recent visit, about 30 years ago ; Lot smasll, but safe. If space not available, about a mile away, University of Virginia Visitors’ Parking Lot, also safe, but large.

I hope you get more recent information from another reader.

There is or was a bus between the two locations, about every half hour if memory is correct.

I was last there… well, about the same time as Mr. Klepper; where has the time gone? I remember a wonderful time standing with one of my tutorees on the station platform during a thunderstorm, watching how the echoes of thunder came out radially from the lightning strokes…

If I remember correctly about the parking, there was a gravel apron of considerable extent, so I wouldn’t expect parking difficulties. Perhaps a wise thing would be to pull up Google Earth or a recent aerial if one is available and see what that shows.

Looks pretty large. But maybe not large enough - Probably does not help that the lot is shared with the Wild Wing Cafe

Yeah, they’ve developed around it… a LOT. I’m glad to see it, but it means YMMV with actual parking at the time you need it, or with long-term safety while you’re traveling.

Thanks for the input.

Interesting. I thought everyone would get the same Google Maps satellite view. But between this forum, a different forum, and my own view, I’m seeing three different images of the lot: one almost full, one half full, and one a quarter full!

I have a sister just outside of Cville; I probably ought to park at her place, to be safe. If she or her husband can’t ferry us, we can get Ubers.

Here is the Bing Version …
