Chevy Lumina Oleo in Bob Hope's Backyard

For any fans of the locally ubiqutuous F59PHI (derisively known as Chevy Luminas for their resemblence to the low quality Lumina SUVs of the 1990s), I thought I’d share some recent scans (from just before I finally switched to digital in August of 2005). These three images were all taken within about 1/2 an hour of each other.

First is of one of the Marlboro Unlimited units that Metrolink bought, pulling a Burbank Airport Turn.

Second is the original Sound Transit F59PHI splitting the signals at CP Lockheed.

Third is an Amtrak Surfliner of Horizon Fleet equipment passing the Bob Hope Airport sign.

One day we will miss these Chevy Luminas… one day… but certainly not yet.

…Good photos.

Chebbie Lumina was a mini-van, not SUV, as I recall. Lousy one, almost as bad as the awful Ford Aerostar.

You’re right… it was a minivan. Posting after a day of work I got sloppy.

The Chevy Lumina was a car. It was the 4 door version of the Monte Carlo essentially. Nice shots though.

As a side note, I didn’t shed any tears when I heard the Marlboro Limited wasn’t to be. Just my opinion.

This is the Chevy Lumina of which we speak. It’s a minivan. It was sold at the same time as the car one… hence the confusion… (two models with the same name).

That IS confusing…but you guys are right when you say the engines look like that. Always good stuff EL. Even your minivan pictures!

And I want to thank my friend Jeff for getting me an avatar picture, that silhouette just didn’t work for me.

Not my minivan picture, LOL… but thanks. Actually, in looking for the picture, I discovered that Chevrolet called it an APV, for All Purpose Vehicle.

I wouldn’t take it off-road.[:D]

I wouldnt call the ford aerostar a lousy vehical. it was dependable and stylish for its time. i might be wrong, but i believe it was the first minivan to gain wide spread acceptance. the dodge caravan was already out,but i think the aerostar was the van that killed the stationwagon. i honestly perfer station wagons though. my dad owned a 1968 ford fairlane wagon and a chevy impala wagon. it was a 1978 or 80 something model. my first car was a 1981 chevy malibu classic wagon. lots of fun times with that car! the lumina apv was that van. it was the same thing as a pontiac transport. still see alot of those things on the road.

Some of us may be harder on cars than others,I dont agree ,I put 250,000 miles on an Areostar before I sold it to my gson and he wrecked it in about 3 mths…Never had a minutes trouble out of it…![2c]

Nice pics tho,and now that you mentioned it they do look like an Chebbie APV…
