CLOSED////////The Coffee Pot is still on and over 3 years. Here we gather as friends with trains.

Good morning, all.

It’s a beautiful day in Prattville, AL. Sunny and cool this morning, getting into low 70’s by afternoon. Got the oil changed in elder daughter’s car while she’s home for the weekend. Son will be home for his 19th birthday, we’ll take him out to eat Sunday after church. He’s shown no ill effects after his accidenet last Saturday. Still no word from the adjuster on his Jeep. Most of the adjusters in the state are busy in Enterprise with the aftermath of the tornado.

Picked up a very nice Marx tin Santa Fe tank car off the 'bay. I have several but this one is in like-new condition. Most of my others have scratches and dings, but they all roll on the track just fine.

LOL!!! You are correct… I was reading it words not works… fixed.

I got to take a good look at the next CTT cover on the opening page…looks great and I can’t wait to get it…but around these parts, it will take a few weeks (some kind of northern conspiracy, I think). I have noticed that they have had no “Sweepstakes” for a few weeks. What’s up? They have them for MR and Classic trains, etc.

Anyway, look forward to getting the new CTT.

So I was looking through my MTH 2006 catalog (like I do every day), and wondered if both A units have two drive motors when you buy the C&O ABA unit? Do we really get 4 drive motors?

Also, does anyone have a site of what the horns of each engine sound like? Or has anyone started a web site of a collection of railsounds of various engines? I’m pretty sure that many of the sounds are shared by manufacture, but I would like to hear some of the horns in action, and our hobby shop doesn’t have a great selection in stock.

Just wondering,
Wes

Wess,
Which Catalog and what page?

The A-A set I purchased contained 1 powered and 1 non-powered unit. The B-unit is non-powered. I did see where you can get the motors and boards seperate, so am wondering if it is possible to power the non-powered A unit…

Brent

I’m leaving for the day. Off to see the dentist. Have a nice weekend everyone!

Pg 107. I’m confused now if 2 flywheel equipped motors is per A unit, or one powered, and one not.

Wes

Wes,
The way I read it was either 1 motor per A unit or 1 A unit with 2 motors… I would venture to guess it is 1 A unit with 2 motors.

Brent

I figure you are right, but wouldn’t the say that it came with one powered A unit, and one non-powered A unit?

W

You would THINK now wouldn’t ya?!?!

Imagine if you read it to mean EACH A-Unit came with 2 motors, you order it, and it comes with only 1 A-Unit with 2 motors… I would be a bit miffed at that point. The reason I think it is 1 A-Unit with 2 motors is I have rarely, if ever, seen Lionel or MTH produce an A-A or A-B-A set with two powered A Units, even more rare is the all powered A-B-A set!

Now Williams does make all powered A-B-A sets if I am not mistaken…

Brent

It’s probably a total power issue, more than anything, but since it’s a premier set, it should be available in double powered A unit. Maybe many 100 watt transformers will struggle powering 4 motors at a time at higher speeds.

My 2-8-0 MTH loco with a single motor does a great job pulling up my test incline. I have a 0 to 6" incline in 10 sections of track (probably around 100 inches), so around 6% incline. With just the 4 car consist and tender, it doesn’t slip or bog down, and is just barely effected with an 8 car consist. I can only imagine if it had 2 motors, or better yet, two cars with 2 motors!

Wes

sent an n scale engine ( yes I know we do O gauge ) into bachmann on the 17th of Feb called today as haven’t heard anything or seen the check cashed yet. well called first off they had to find it and when they did they gave me an order number and said it is process as of 9 march 2007 (I ask oh as of today its processed they said yes) then they said it will take 6 to 8 weeks to be worked on and returned to you . I’m wondering now that I’m off the phone if I didn’t call how much longer wood it have been sitting there before they got to it lol.

I picked this up and a couple of cars (O gauge) (about $20.00 worth) and 4 passenger cars penn central n scale and the engine is an Santa Fe 4-8-4 with a 16 wheel 52’ tender she is pretty but looksa like someone tried to fix it and there is parts missing so for the $15.00 figure it was worth the try anyway got it all for $50.00 so I have about $70.00 into it including shipping but have seen the passenger cars sell for about $50.00 on ebay so figure I’m close anyway on the cars alone and seen the engine go for about $65.00 so if it gets fixed I’m in good.

heres a pic of her from bachmann’s web site.

If I keep her she will have to become either a B&O with penn passenger cars or a Penn central herself lol She is a sweet looking engine and I could put a small loop going around like a mountain on my layout in the far corner to make it look like shes in the far distance.

Heh,I have two of those puppies new in boxes. Don’t remember the road names. Bought them & then went with PRR stuff.

Evenin’ boys. Started the laundery early, so that I can spend the rest of my weekend tidying up the basement for 88’s arrival. Brent, Tuesday after work will be just fine. I’ll email ya.

In reference to F units with similar numbers, EMD actually delivered solid A-B-B-A sets to the railroads back in the 40’s, and they were usually given one number per 4 unit set…something like B&O #86,86A,86B,86B2. And that’s usually how they ran until railroads started splitting up the lash-ups to more efficiently use the power.

Brent, this is one of the things that made the K-Line set so nice, Two powered A units and some even had a powered B unit. Between 4 and 6 motors in a lashup. That is nice. I have the Lackawanna ABA set and it is sweet! Has TMCC, Railsounds, lots of extras all for under $400. I hope but don’t expect Lionel to make these under K-Lionel.

I got the K-Line Kennecott Copper Company MP-15 diesel engine and its a powerful engine both front and rear trucks are powered. I haven’t been able to test it with a load yet as don’t have a layout but I put it to a test track and it had some real power to it. I also have hershey set with A&B units and the a unit is powered and it has some good power to it also. Most K-Line units I have gotten seemed to be powerful engines.

Good evening all, well, I had another great day of Seminary stuff, Hebrew etc. Some of it was good some seemed kinda pointless. Oh well, this to shall pass. I just hope I do. LOL Anyways, I’m home now with the kids watching the original Grease; believe it or not my 5 year old son really likes it a lot. No, trains yet, maybe later though.

Weather-wise it was a beautiful day out here, clear with a slight breeze in the 60’s, just perfect.

It was a BEAUTIFUL day in Beautiful. downtown, rural, OHIO.

We had sunshine all day and 65 degrees.

Summer is coming.

TIRED!!! Just got to hotel. Sold 22 chargers today. Constant movement of folks and rest of the sales folks had a slow day. They were all kidding me about selling so much on a Friday. Off to room. Too much dang nab reading when yuo miss a whole day. BTW: did Dewey relate that his folks in Ohio ran a mill that ground GRITS? [(-D]

GOOOD night.
