Dennis, beware the slippery slope of escalation! Next time, she’ll bring home a Prada purse, you’ll be forced to respond with a 3rd Rail brass engine, the children will have to go without shoes . . . [;)][:D]
Sunny and cool this am in Prattville, AL. The CTT truck arrived yesterday - mine is very nice. I especially like the CD changer and the leather upholstery, although the shifter seems a bit balky going from 3rd to 4th gear. Good view of the road from the cab, too.
It’s 53 degrees, overcast and rainy here today with a forecast for more of the same.[:(] I had some time yesterday to tinker on the benchwork. I had been noticing that I was getting a deceleration in the 6 to 3 o’clock and then acceleration from 12 to 9, my transformer section of track is at the 6 o’clock so I knew it wasn’t a power problem, plus if an 80 watt transformer can’t power a 40x60 then there are big problems. So I got my tape measure and level out. Well, the height of the benchwork was almost exactly the same at all four corners. The level told the real story. By the time I finished shimming the benchwork on its table I took my tape measure back out, and now the greatest difference was more than 1/3rd of an inch, and this is on a concrete floor! Now, I’m able to run the Pole Ex at a nice slow pace (around 40%) with no deceleration. This is what I really like to do, that way I can really watch the wheel action as the Berkshire pulls around the track. No speed demon here, just a nice slow comfortable ride for those kiddies on their way to see Santa.
Hello from Sunny FLA…Its about 60ish today hitting 73, partly cloudy. No trains last night, had to pick up my Dancing Daughter from a school dance trip to Walter World. Got home past midnight. Then off to the job at 7.
John(jfelectric) thanks for the heads up, I looked at the GP7, but for right now it is a bit pricey, I have to liquidate a few items (motorcycle, hotwheels…[] ) so we can proceed on the new house thing. Found a new construction waiting to be sold…need a retainer of 3% to hold it and I’m thaaaat clooose to getting it. Minimal yard, so the lawn mower can go and most of the yard maintainance stuff. More room in the G-rage for my 4 wheel toy!!! And so it goes…
Good morning from a sunny and cold Chicago where it is still winter though without the snow.
John and Mike C, it is nice to hear your teenage daughters grew up successfully. We had our share of drama last night but I survived without having to bring out the trunk monkey - I think I can feel my hair falling out though.
Dr. John, LOL.
I just spent a bundle on new furniture or rather the bride did - at a local place called Ashley Furniture. You order what you like in the showroom and they make it at their plant in Wisconsin. It was far less expensive than the comparable Wickes or Ethan Allens.
I had a special treat this morning. The UP’s executive business train was in the Chicago passenger station a few tracks over when our scoot pulled in. I had to walk over after writing a check to the UP for a new ticket, and wander up the and down the platform, looking up at the windows like a foamer.
Boy, would it have been something to ride a train like this in its prime! It is in spotless condition. The engine was off getting serviced but there’s a B unit-like power car, plenty of people eating breakfast in the dining car, a mid-train dome car, the track inspection car on the rear with a sort of garage door pulled down over it - opposite the power car was a beautiful obs car with a streamlined open platform, a few sleepers and even one car that had workout equipment. Highlight of my day! Wish I had a camera phone.
I also got another treat - a package of old magazines I had traded some CTTs for. Model Builders from 1943, 44, 46 and 48. Neat to imagine the lineage going back in sharing the hobby. Can’t wait to share what I read.
Morning all… busy day today at work… so I won’t be posting much! [V]
Chief and Lisa, thanks for the help. I was able to find the sofa, chair, and ottoman online and requested an online quote… also found a bunch of other sites for lighting and other odds and ends. Looks like we may be making a trip to NC in June or early July.
Fife - I wish I could blow a wad-o’-cash at York, but that ain’t happenin this year! [V] I have spent neary $1,500.00 on trains since the beginning of the year and if the wife sees that figure I’m done! With the house, furniture, etc I have to keep a low profile for a while and let the smoke settle. I haven’t told her there is another meet in October… I think I may have to wait to spring that one on her till September! [:)] [:-,]
And seeing how I’ve been informed that starting construction can begin as soon as we are unpacked and settled… well I don’t want to ruin that opportunity!
Well gotta run! Installing demo versions of some software we are evaluating and I’ve got to get three prototype applications built by the end of the week - without working overtime and still going to the doc tomorrow at 2pm and then possibly being off on Thursday due to the Brain MRI…
Morning all from a sunny and warming NC. The pollen is increasing daily so spring is definitely here.
Dennis - Still looking for just the right job. Plenty of nursing jobs out there but not interested in hospital or doctor’s office. Have a couple of interviews this week. Really loved doing the medical record analysis.
Just got the news - my son’s beagle “Sarah” is about to give birth - so I guess I’m going to be a “great-grandma” very soon! May have to assist in the delivery today!![(-D]
Lisa, we have soooo much pollen, it is rediculous. My black car is pale green, so is the dark green truck, and the white car, all the same color. I will get it washed, the next day it looks just as bad. It also plays havoc on the allergies. My poor son has his eyes about swollen shut from all the allergens. It has been plenty warm here and I suspect it will only get worse. good luck in the job hunt.
Just got back from the doc’s. Don’t have to wear the splint anymore except for strenuous activity and to sleep at night. Just have to keep two fingers taped together most of the time till next visit.
Now maybe I will be able to do a little train work. Need to finish the TMCC conversion of my Docksider.
Lisa, Good luck in the job hunt. Have you checked out the drug companies? Of course that usually involves travel.
Morning. Almost noon. Been doing reports and booking flight [more trips]. Got to get moving. Lisa, goodluck on the beagles. Use to have lots of them to rabbit hunt. Beagle pups are the cutest. John F., need to call you about the restaurant for Sat [directions from Bass Pro]. Dennis, everyone ignores Buckeye. [(-D] Later.
Due to a National Religious Holiday, we did take it easy on the Chief this time. I was also busy sitting in my fine court side seats at the NCAA games at Nationwide Arena and then of course there were the parties.
How can pollen be in the air? The ice is still on the lakes in Northern Ohio.
Actually, since you are nurse and must swear a hypercritical oath of some sort and wear a white hat, I knew you would do the right thing. [:)]
I have been swamped for the past week or so and have not had chance to check in but I have a quick question for the Coffee Pot Krew. A few weeks back someone posted a link somewhere on the forum pointing to an ebay sale concerning a large amount of Lionel train parts and pieces. It was selling for a pretty large chunk of change and advertised over 1 million items in the sale lot. Does anyone recall the link for this item on ebay, I am curious to see what the final selling price ended at.
Thanks for the help.
The sunshine is coming back to Alaska finally and the days are getting nice and long again. It is even getting up above 0°F in the day time now! It won’t be long and our weather will be warm enough to start the spring snow melts! Life in the North– you have to love it!
Warm and sunny, tulips, lilies, daffodils coming up all over, some crocus’ blooming. Sue the dog is still getting better.
I received the sawmill I won ebay and it was better than I expected! I tore it down today to clean and lube it. A few adjustments and it will be like new. Working on a plan where to put it on the layout. I’ll be moving some things around.
Finishing up papers and studying for finals. Can’t wait till end of quarter. Looking forward to some free time as I’ve got an entertainment center to build and we actually will be keeping this piece for a change.
RT – Thanks for the reply. I gave the address a shot and it brought up a response page for Allied trains which is another one of tongue wagging make my chops drool ebay deals. What a cool looking train store with a pretty famous bunch of client to go with.
The auction I am trying to locate is one where the guy lives around the Chicago area and the items were all in several storage vans, or cargo van, looking trailers stacked ontop of each other. Nothing fancy at all. Does that ring a bell with anyone?
Frank (Chief) When is the best time to call you? Or you can call me anytime tomorow except from 11:00 to 1:00, taking the bride to lunch. I think you have my numbers.
Hi guys, working OT every day stinks, but the money will be nice. I started working on my bride for a ten wheeler RTR set from MTH, too… Big news in St. Louis - they made Busch Stadium 100 percent non-smoking! I think this is a great idea, but it is causing quit a flap!
Jefelectric - sent you an email - did you get it? I was asking about your cattle.
Well, it’s official. I am now a great grandmother of 6 gorgeous little beagle pups. Sarah had an uneventful delivery over the course of 4 1/2 hours. All are doing well. The 6 y.o. g’son was so excited and had lots of questions. Nana and Mama, both nurses, managed to answer them to his satisfaction. Here’s a picture…
