Coffee Pot #9 SEPTEMBER 2012 SIX years [April 1 is Anniv.] and going strong and its for all to chat. Plenty of coffee and sweet ice tea for all. Come and join us and chat. GRITS for the Yankees

Makes you wonder where the time goes.

Into the past, where else could it go*

Good morning all, happy September the oneth. I think L.A. County fair opens today. Always during the hotest time of the year. Doubt if I will be caught dead over there. Only thing of interest to me is outdoor railroad and even that is not what it used to be.

Made some Bar-B-Que country style pork ribs yesterday. I boiled them first then finished on the grill with sauce. Think I lost about half the weight in the cooking. Whole project is too labor intensive and getting rid of the greasy water is always a problem. I don’t put it down the sink. Just chilled it and skimmed off the fat from the top. Poured remaining water into a hole in the ground. Next time, I wlll just buy some precooked Tony Roma Ribs and heat up in the oven.

No plans today. Just lay low from the heat.

Later,

Ray

Afternoon all just got home from work about 20 minutes ago. Basiclly a calm quiet day today. Yeah its already first of September. Not much else going on here.

Just stumbled across this on youtube wow video from the cab of an actuall train wreck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCbOUgr_r-E&feature=related

Definitely an ‘OH CRAP!’ moment. That one’s been on the net for almost four years now.

It was overcast most of today but it did go to 85. I had a nice day, watched football, had a nap and still had enough time to sit outside and finish CTT. The Banilla has been served but there is plenty for the Thingy crew… …S.J.

Good evening all,

Rainy in SE Indiana. Mike Conway driving for AJ Foyt Racing was second quick in qualifying for the Baltimore race tomorrow. Due to an engine change, he will start 11th or 12th, but it was nice to see the #14 car back at the top of the qualifying order. Hopefully a good finish tomorrow will translate into some momentum for next year. Scored a bunch of stuff at Half-Priced Books 20% off sale today, including two train books. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Time for me to call it a night. See y’all tomorrow.

Good Evenng!

WELL I’M BACK ! (I think)

Summer at the amusement park is pretty much over, as of Tuesday we go back to the “winter schedule”. And I am VERY thankful for that! This past month has been absolutely grueling! Especially with the weather so hot here. But what has made it really miserable is the humidity, especially in the cab of the steam engine. The only good news is that I lost about 14 lbs. During the winter months the park will only run the steam engine and train on the weekends, except for a few weeks prior to Christmas. During the week will be running the Galloping Goose. Of course the hours are less, which is fine with me, will go down to 3 or 4 days a week.

During these past 3 months, my wife has been running our business, and has done a fantastic job! So will be interesting to see how much she lets me back in. [*-)] I think that has been one of the biggest benefits, especially for the “long term”

Oh yeah, if any of you watch “America’s Got Talent” on Tuesday evening an Extreme Air, Bike and Acrobatic team will be performing. They have been doing 2 shows 5 nights a week at Knott’s. These kids are REALLY Great, you might want to check it out. I’ve been watching them all summer. (BTW Sarah is a definite 10)

Just to make sure I don’t get too bored with all the new found time I will be having, I have committed myself to helping a good friend build a layout. It is a rather large one 16x22. And it is what HE wants, I think it has over 52 switches on it. I have spent about 2 years working on different designs for him, I think we have one for every room in their house. But this is the one he was able to negotiate with his wife, So we will see. Below is a image of the layout design, (I hope)

Howdy guys! Had a little problem this morning, but I think I’m doing a lot better now and not feeling sick for once. I was starving so made a big homemade hamburger for dinner, probably like 1/3 pounder! Chewy got a little of it, but it was sure good. Char and the kids are in KC enjoying the rain there. It’s been raining here on and off for 2 days, but we are glad to get some rain. Chewy and I are hanging in there. I do plan to work on the basement a big tomorrow - get the drain centered and fill/concrete for the shower floor. That should only take a couple of hours though. Watching some old monster movies and having a couple brews seems like a good idea right now - good night!

Tardis Train Crew, let’s go! We’ve got Blue Moon and also Harvest-Pumpkin Ale (which is okay, but not as good as it sounds). Ciao!

Konnichiwa,

The wife made cappuccino muffins for breakfast this morning. It’s raining again today which is actually a good thing. We had Sunday school and church this morning. However, I woke up around 1:00 AM this morning to watch the PSU game. I knew it would be a tough game as Ohio is a solid team even though they play in the MAC. PSU’s offense started off great; looked a lot like the Patriot’s offense which makes sense based upon the new coach. Unfortunately, their offense stalled and Ohio’s came alive. If PSU finishes 6-6 this year it will be a good season. Today is the wife’s birthday but she hasn’t decided what she wants for dinner yet. We made the cake yesterday and have enjoyed some of it already. I’m sure we’ll spend most of the day inside relaxing today.

Kev – Right now I get paid twice a month, but I am considering going to the once a month option. Doing so would force us to fully adhere to our budget. We don’t stray far from it now, but we could always do better.

SP Ray – You could always bake the ribs in the oven for a couple of hours first and then finish them on the grill. If you coat them in sauce and then wrap in the foil prior to placing them in the oven, they will turn out nicely. Cleanup is easy as you just toss the foil out.

Don B. – You’re a good friend for helping him out, and it looks like fun too. You’ll have plenty of time to work on the layout if the wife pushes you out of the business. [swg]

Brutus – I’m glad you’re feeling better.

Sayonara,

Joe

Mornin’ boys. Overcast and 72 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Not too sure what we’re doing today in fifedom. Went to dinner with our best friends last night, and wound up on the yatchet til 2300. Good time.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR…

It is raining hard. 70 degrees. It has rained all night. No thunder yet. Looks like we will get a lot of rain today. Up to 84 degrees.

Today is an easy day. I have the usual chores and then I will relax and read my latest copy of “Trains” mag. Lunch and a nap, for sure. There is a Nascar race tonite from Atlanta.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y’all have a great and dry Sunday.

Chuck

Good morning

Everything is all ticketyboo with me here…been crawling through some archived stuff on this here forum…getting some ideas as to why certain things do not like to run here…

Going to be sunny and warm …high of 84F feeling like 93F … still no sign of Isaac here…seems stuck? Hope not…

Hi GUYZ,

Overcast here and a spot shower. Yesterday ripped of roof of outdoor fireplace. Stripped it down to bare plywood, had to take out all nails and replace bad plywood. Took me all day to do. Lots o nails and drip edes were full of em. Gotta let it go today have a picnic up at WIFEs UNCLES. So looks like I’ll resume tomorrow if it don’t rain. If it does then will have to let it dry a day or so. Still gotta put new felt down and new roll roofing but being a shed not really to worried about the rain on it. Need a train fix so if it does rain I’m running trains.

No run today gonna take a day off. First one in 7 weeks. I’ll be walking dog though a few times today so gonna get some mileage in that way.

Next door neighbors got a new rescue dog, name is MANGO. MINNIE and MANGO get along real good. She is only a year old and MINNIE is approching 2 in October. They are good for each other.

Stay frosty,

laz57

Good morning. It’s 75° with 100% humidity. There’s a slight chance of rain. It’ll be mostly cloudy and the high will be 95° with an index of 105°.

Looking at doing some cleanup on the layout this morning. Also planning on backing up my flash drives on DVD’s.

Other than that nothing much is going on.

Let’s see, it’s 71 and we are overcast but no rain.

Joe I hope your bride enjoyed her birthday. We have no plans for the weekend so I’m not sure what today will bring. I think granny has her flower beds squared away for now and we still have tomatoes, cukes and string beans growing. A good Tardis chat last night…S.J.

DonB - You are a good friend to Bob. I hope you post pics from the beginning to the end, including the benchwork.

TV forcast is 97 Sun. 95 Tue. 95 Wed. in broke southern Calif.

Last time I drove my 89 Calavier Z 24 it drove fine. Yesterday it vibrated and shook on the freeway some and caused me alarm. Stupid me I still went 80 at times. Later looking at the tires one has a tread seperation with a bulging area. So straight to the tire store Monday. I have other cars in the meantime.

Ray - I plan on taking some pictures of the build effort. Should be able to spend 2 or 3 days on it this next week. I want to get the table top up ASAP, while he has approval from his wife, and so that BOTH of them can SEE the reality of how big this layout is. Bob has a ton of accessories, dont know how they will all be integrated. He probably has the largest collection of stuff of anyone I know. It will also be interesting to see what happens to all the exercise equipment also in the room. Actually I’m looking forward to making it happen, hopefully will have stuff running in a few weeks.
