Come On Guys, Give Me A Break!

There is way too much trolling, flaming, and just plain disrespecting on here! Lately I’ve seen way too much “Screw You” and “That’s stupid”. Come on guys, we’re here to learn about the hobby, not to get into a heated argument over everything. Discussion, of course, is not bad, but not a war.

If this gets much worse, I’m outta here. I’m tired of it.

I’ll go back to my hole now.

Have a good day,

uspscsx

Wait until end of the month, I think you will see things quite down and get back to model railroading. Not to knock on you, but you can always ignore the posts. I know it can be hard to do, sort of like twisting your neck to see that wreck on the highway. I think we have a majority of decent posts compared to the “troll/flaming/shouting” posts. Don’t let a small wave in the lake make you get out, the wind always calms down. We know that in Illinois, just finally getting some rain…

Good suggestions, yes it is hard to ignore them, especially when they’re pointed in a group of people’s direction that includes me and some of the guys I’ve met on here and come to know and respect. Most of it is for no reason, but it gets irritating.

Maybe my topic is a little out of line…

uspscsx

I don’t know what’s going on. I’m selective in what I read. The post has to jump out
and bite me in the butt otherwise I pass.

Hey David…where in central IL are ya?

I’m originally from the IL side of the Big Creek near St L. My great uncle was an engineer for the GM&O. That kinda explains my penchant for The Alton RR stuff I have collected over the years.

Rotor

We have that yellow river running threw town [:D], actaully I am in Peoria IL, with the big yellow called Cat. We used to be a big big train meca, but anymore we only have 1 run through RR called the UP, all the others come in to interchange with TZPR, the old P&PU. [:(!]

uspscsx,

Your comments and feelings are quite understandable. Flames and Trolling occur occasionally, but it’s not the norm…don’t be discouraged. Continue to post and enjoy.
There are times when trolls are so silly, that you just have to laugh and move on.[(-D][(-D]

When flaming does get out of hand, it’s simple to send Bergie [4:-)] an e-mail at

Forums@trains.com

As soon as he gets it, he’ll check out the topic. If it’s inapppropriate or too heated, he’ll lock or delete it. Bergie then sends you an e-mail and thank you for your input.

One thing that’s good to keep in mind:

There have been times when hot topics have come up, and a couple of forum members will actually help turn it around and transform it into a productive topic! Two guys that have done this before on different topics are JNichols and Big_Boy_4005. They used their heads and made lemonade out of something sour.

Cheers and Peace! [;)]

exactly wait til the end of this month, school will be starting again, and the immature members should be going back.

Lately I’ve seen way too much “Screw You” and “That’s stupid”
Where are you seeing this at? I can’t remember ever seeing some one make posts like that? I agree that some times people make negative posts when really they should have just not replied.(If you can’t say any thing nice…You know…) I try not to get my panties in a bunch if somebody flames me. There’s too many nice people with great advise here to let a few bad apples spoil it for me.[2c][^]

You got that right![:D][:D]

Ehh, school, don’t remind me.[:(] I may not like heat, but I like my summer vacations. And not to burst your bubble or anything (if I do damage its boyancy, I’m sorry.[:p]) but school doesn’t last all day. There will be plenty of time for immature members to post immaturely AFTER school. At least it won’t be as frequent. (That’s what you are refering to, isn’t it?)

But yes, there has been quite a bit of flaming, and a lot of it unneccessary. I don’t like seeing it, and it makes us look immature.

I’ve tried to turn some around, but I can’t get it to work, so I’m going to leave it to the professionals, like JNichols and Big_Boy_4005. Antonio, I would see you as one of them as well. Where were you guys when my “Questionable eBay Tactics” got out of hand?[:p]

Most of the recent din has been caused by one or two immature teens. They’ll either calm down or go away and we can get back to trains…

Absolutely! The best way to handle trolls is to not reply to their rants. They will go away on their own when they don’t get someone all ticked off. I sometimes pop in to see what makes a thread go on for 7 or 8 pages when it is not on topic, but then I just leave it be and find a more interesting subject and read that thread… uspscxs, don’t let some trolls drive you away from what is a great forum!

I really hope you aren’t referring to my eBay thread.[V] I never meant for that to turn out to be the monster it did.[:(]

While you are correct concerning the most recent problems, there were problems several months ago by someone that definately was not a teen. Hopefully the “one or two immature teens” that have caused recent problems won’t be seen as a reflection of the numerable teens that are a very healthy and most welcome (at least by me) part of this forum.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been seeing quite a few topics get very off topic from the origonal post. Like that dust bunnies thing in that thread about Lotus_098 being a troll (and we know he’s not). Or there’s been a lot of “Oh, you live in Sacramento? How close to XX street? I live…”. Personally, I thought that’s what that Coffee Shop thread was for. Off Topic chat that people can’t see unless they go into that topic.

I’m really starting to get tired of these forums. I think it’s time for a break…

Edit: I just found another example of posts getting off topic! I go click on page 4 of the “Thing I Hate About Model Railroading” thread to see what other modelers dislike doing and what do I find? Guys talking about how to get girls! SHEESH![xx(][V]

uspscsx, you are the third person that I know of to state they have had about “all I can stands, I can’t stands no more .” I’m on that list, too. My finger was on the trigger to walk away one night last week. We’ve lost one member that I know of over this stuff.

Some of it is from the less aged of the group, probably most of it. But, there is also an undercurrent on model railroad topics who approach techniques with “here is the way I do it, it is superior, and if you don’t agree, you are an idiot.” That is about enough to cause me to reconsider my own techniques if I am using the same technique as they are!

Then one of the many more well-grounded members steps up with something insightful (vs. incite-ful) or something comical and I remember why this forum exists.

These topics will always come up no matter what you do on a forum like this. When I was an Administrator on another forum I created a forum called AREA 51. Everything that wasn’t related to the main forum went there. It solved the problem.

Thread drift is normal for most any forum that I know of. It’s something to be expected, and it’s just human nature.

I’ll admit, I’m guilty from time to time, although I try to stay to the topic on hand. I’ve taken several comments to PM, or email, just not to get off topic in the thread.

As far as quitting the forum due to thread drift or some of the off topic subjects that come up…there is too much good info, fun, and humor here to do that. It’s real simple, if you don’t like it, don’t read it!

On one of the slot car forums I frequent, there is one guy who thinks he has the answer to saving the industry by re-inventing the wheel. I always read what he says, as he usually jumps into the middle of someones thread with his off the wall posts, but I’ll seldom reply to it. I might get miffed at him, but most times I just shake my head, laugh knowingly to myself, and grab another beer.

It’s all about the fun!

Remember, we are grown folks playing with toy trains! [;)]

Rotor

Thread drift is not why some of us have thought about bailing out, Rotor. It is when you log on here and feel more like you are in the middle of a day care center or asylum than a hobby forum. I can get that on one of the ESPN forums, if I want it.

And as far as us being grown folks playing with toy trains, I for one resent that. Who said we were grown? That is a state of mind, isn’t it?[(-D]
