Commemorative & Fantasy Models (Presidents, Events, NMRA, Magazines, Clubs, LHSs, etc.)

Information on Ak-Sar-Ben is very hard to come by. From what I can tell the business has been purchased not long before the Fair in 82. Maybe 1979 or 80? A thread from 2009 has a tiny bit of insight:

Thanks, Becky. Living in Nebraska and having the name AkSarBen used frequently here, I was surprised to see the company in Tennessee. Maybe the owner came from Nebraska.

This thread has a comment about the Tennessee store being sold.

I know I read the obituary of the original Omaha owner years ago but I can’t seem to find that now.

Although it was called “10th Anniversary” because it was the 10th event, it was mistakenly assumed that it was the 9th year in full. The label on the box has been corrected.

Do you see the connection between this pattern and Manayunk, Philadelphia? It is the same as the Japanese Navy flag.

What is JELL-O?

Jell-O is an American dessert, made by adding sugar and flavoring to gelatin. Subsequently the addition of alcohol produced ‘Jell-O shooters’. Sometimes just genericized to ‘Jello’.

It comes as a powder that is dissolved in hot water. The solution is placed in a mold and refrigerated a few hours, where it sets into a wobbly block.

Thanks for your comment, Woke_Hoagland. The colors are intriguing and appetizing.

If you’ve ever attended a rural church and went to one of their pot-luck dinners, Jell-O was the go-to dessert (or salad) for many church ladies.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I guess Tyco chose it as their motif because it’s so popular.
