Wow! Are these commemorative models from the Amherst Hobby Show? Unfortunately I’ve never been there.

Here’s the verbiage from the email I received:

"With the exception of 2021, the Amherst Railway Society has been producing commemorative items each year to celebrate the traditions of the Railroad Hobby Show and the Amherst Railway Society since 2002.

The Amherst collection has become popular with collectors.

So, do you have all the cars, locomotives, and other commemorative items that have been issued over the years?

Special thanks to John Peters for maintaining the Amherst Commemorative Cars records."

They used to have whatever the current car was available for purchase at the show, but I have not seen any the past couple years. I can only presume that they are limited run and the society members snap them up ahead of time.

I think I’ve purchased one commemorative boxcar and it was for my historical society: NYCSHS. I wouldn’t purchase another one; nor would I purchase any freelance or fantasy paint-scheme locomotive or piece of rolling stock. I enjoy history so fantasy anything just holds no interest for me…

Yeah, same here. The photos are fun to look at, but I have no place on my layout for commemorative cars.

Bev-Bel, quite an innovative vendor back in the day. Kind of like Accurail is now?

They listed their founding as 1958-1959, but in MR magazine their presence can be seen from 1975 to 1993. They may have called themselves “Bee-Bee Trains” before 1975.

Here’s my new contribution to this thread. I just received and built the red MR&T boxcar today that I purchased from the Trains.com Store. I added Sergent Engineering couplers and Kadee Code 88 metal wheelsets.

I like to run different eras on the layout from time-to-time, to keep it interesting. The blue MR&T car is dated 2-86, which is barely acceptable for the 1983-86 Seaboard System era. The new red MR&T car is dated 10-72, which will be great for the Seaboard Coast Line (mid-1970s) or later eras that I run.

I didn’t like this mark, so I printed it out on self adhesive sticker paper with an inkjet printer. The thin black lines of the original drawing came out thick when printed, so I changed it as shown on the right.

You can see how thick the paper I pasted it on is, but I insist it’s an enamel sign. It might have been better to paint the cut edges gray with a water-based pen.

Loving the colourful rolling stock the other side of the pond.
Here in the U.K. we are not as adventurous. :grinning:

I am convinced that the modeler will never run out of choices if he is looking for commemorative or fantasy models.

Funny enough, That’s the reporting Mark for the Berkshire and Eastern, One of many New England shortlines (Check them out, They’re pretty cool)

I see, I understand that the reporting mark ends with an “X” because the railroad doesn’t own the tracks. But that doesn’t make sense to me as a shortline “railroad.” (Wikipedia)

It could be that the RR operates on tracks owned by another entity. I work on the Adirondack Railroad (tourist line), reporting marks ADIX. We operate on tracks owned by New York State and and a freight railroad.

It was released in November 1996 as the 13th in the Athern Special Edition series (stock#2312), and came with a Husky Stack Container Car for a list price of $34.00.

Athearn RTR 55’ ACF covered hopper stock#7204

Judging from the price sticker on the box, this model is believed to have been purchased at Bruce’s Train Shop in Sacramento, California. Advertisements for the shop can be found in MR magazine from the Feb. 1982 issue onwards. This ad is on page 143 of the Aug. 1998 issue of the magazine. And the shop closed in 2013. There is some discussion about the shop on the Trainoders.com forum."
