Coon Gap Sawmill dimensions... all of them?

Years ago I purchased this kit (before they became as expensive as they are today). I have not begun to construct it but have begun the layout on which it will ultimately be a centerpiece. My problem is I’m building the surrounding hills and trying to determine the log pond dimensions now and really need to know how much space I must reserve for the sawmill. I’ve received several differing dimensions but none have been specific enough to allow for accurate planning. The powerhouse can be set in several different positions, mine will probably be semi attached to the right side of rear wall. The log conveyor is not as flexible- it has to go on the left front of the mill. Is there someone out there who can tell me the widths and lengths of the main structure and the conveyor? With space at a premium I don’t want to waste an inch but I also don’t want to have to trim down my hills so that sawmill can fit in its place. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out here. Almost forgot, its the HO version in question here. Roy

The footprint of the structures should be with the plans, if not build the model before you do that section of the layout. The pond can be any size, seeing that it only represents the pond anyway. It neds to be just enough to fit the dump and loading areas.

One would think that a spiral bound book of instructions would tell you dimensions but that is not the case. I don’t want to build the kit until after a planned move back East. Meanwhile all track (but the sawmill’s sidings) is down and I’m building scenery over the open benchwork. I had hoped someone who has this mill on their layout could let me know the specific footprint dimensions for the log jack, main building, and powerhouse but thanks for the suggestions. I have searched both this forum and the web and have not been able to locate the HO dimensions. I was told the mill is 13" x 16" but now need a bit more specific info Roy

I have posted this photo recently on " General Discussions. " Most of the scene is constructed on two standard 30 inch X 4 foot HO modules. The module in the foreground is the log pond only. The main scene is in the background and includes all of the major separate sawmill structures such sawmill and log conveyor and part of the log pond, power house, boiler house, sorting shed( open in my case), teepee burner and a flammable liquids shed. The log pond module could easily be shortened or off layout. Everything on these two modules are built from scratch. The drying yard kiln and office are located further down and could also be off scene. The era is early 1900’s I used pictures from logging books to layout the main module using mockups. The layout of my structures is base on photos from " They Felled The Redwoods. Peter Smith, Memphis

This is a photo of my saw mill with a small pond. What is unique about my saw mill complex is that the pond is built as a pull-out drawer, and the sawmill is placed on a lift-out. This allows access to the rear tracks. A spur is on the right side. It as a tip-up for the log car, to dump logs into the pond. I should have primed the Luan base of the pond, before painting the bottom a murky brown-green. The Magic Water poured, with the logs in place was beautiful for about three years. Then the “water” plastic began to curl. It so happens that the sawmill complex lift-out is above the wire dog bone loop for the Faller Car System cars to reverse direction. This sawmill complex is squeezed between a town and a coke-gas complex. It appears quite realistic.Click on the photo to enlarge it.
