Howdy doody all! Just got back from an unintended railfanning trip. I was headed out to fish when I heard the sound of some EMD’s working hard and headed near the tracks by the 1899 bridge in town. Sure enough a pair of SD40-3’s came rumbling by headed north. So then I said “Self-lets head to Neenah. I have a feeling it’d be worth it.”
It was. I got about 10-12 different roster type shots of engines (my favorite railfanning thing to get!), saw about 6 or 7 trains and met a couple of locals that I didn’t know. All in all a neat day! Walt; Glad you got some rain at the Diner & home 20 . Hope Willy2 shifted some from San Antone . Caught the north edge of it comin’ home . The underside of rattler ain’t been that clean for a while . The brakes got a good washin’ , but just drop a 1/2 a gear & mash down on da brake pedal for a bit and dry em’ out and all is as it should be. The A/C fan quit on the west side of N.M. so oo Mon. hit the A/C shop. 110/deg . here in da Jct. now . Life givi’n ac here at home . CW , do hope your better from your unpleasentness. Well I’m disappointed this evening! The Space Shuttle Atlantis flew into Omaha on top of a 747 this afternoon and hardly anybody had any idea that it was coming in due to security concerns. What really makes me mad is that our house is directly under the usual flight path for planes coming into Omaha/Offutt when winds are out of the south, which they were today. I guess I just didn’t happen to be outside at the right time. I usually hear the planes coming in, but hardly ever look out the window at them, so for all I know I might have heard the 747 but paid no attention. And of course this is a once in a lifetime experience since the space shuttles are going to be retired over the next couple of years and it’s extremely rare that they come into Omaha for fuel anyway. In fact, the last time this happened was in 1985. I just can’t believe it!
That was my rant for the day. Otherwise it was a decent day so I shouldn’t complain too much.

Well - how much wood can a woodchuck chuck? I asked, but he didn’t say a word. So we will never know. But he saw his shadow and it didn’t scare him as much as seeing us did!
I don’t think we are known for our woodchucks or groundhogs - altho we do have Unadilla Bill here for Feb 2. We saw a real one yesterday. He/she was there watching trains with us. Very nice looking specimen, too!
So that makes one rabbit, one fox, one turkey, two kestrels, one woodchuck and numerous pigeons, blackbirds, sparrows and one driver that I have seen. Busy watch site!

Good Monday morning! FINALLY able to get in the door!! I was trying to get in at 6:15 EDT, and could not get the doors open!! Just about broke both hands trying to get in here, to no avail. Joe and Mookie, so glad you all were able to make it in!

I promised pics of what we did with her rooom so here they are. I loved the purple that I saw at the hardware store, and decided to paint her room that same color. It just worled!
yes the afghan is getting some use, I had to take it to a friend so she could mend it, it unraveled [:(]. She fixed it though, so now it’s fine
Got a great call from the son this morning, with two bits of good news. Biggest was that the test results are in and it’ll be “Grampa” Tree early next year. No early word on boy or girl (or preferences), so that bit of suspense will have to wait.
His other news was that he passed his final physical for sheriff’s deputy and will begin the academy this summer. He’s been around public safety for years, so this isn’t a stretch for him.
I’m still recovering from the weekend on the railroad - two l-o-n-g days. After the regular runs Saturday I helped set up the train for a special evening run (I couldn’t work it - HOS would have kicked in), then on Sunday, after the regular runs, we had to set up the train for Wednesdays train robberies (added three cars). Of course, that probably means I’ll have to help take those three cars back off the train Wednesday…
But, I’m on vacation this week. Time to work on my list of things I haven’t had time to do all spring…
It’s summer - let’s do steaks, baked (on the grill) potatoes, and salads (your choice) for supper! I’ve got the grill!
We have had some great weather for the last week or so. Highs around 80 or less, low humidity and plenty of sun.
I am really worried about the next few days. This was in a news brief column of today’s Janesville Gazette. “High temperatures in the 80’s for the week with a slight chance of Tuesday through Thursday.”
I don’t know about anybody else, but I was counting on not missing any days this week, especially since Wednesday is a national holiday. Does Willy have a better forecast? LOL
