D.D. & C. S. (Same folks just a brand new coffee shop--everyone welcome)

Q, I did look that up. Not sure it was the same as I had back in the late 50s, but does look similar. (mine was given to me by a family friend)

I really do wish you had that ESSO sign, we could have some fun![:-,][}:)]

Quentin; all of those radio stations were great for their time . It is too bad the programming today is for ths ( birds) .Some other great ones were WRVA Richmond Va. or WJR Detroit & finally WJJD Chicago, 1 Ill. My mom & dad listend to Renfro Valley church on Sun. morning broadcast from WJR. I too will miss Bob and his Ham radio call sign ( W8FJT ) 50 jumpin’ tigers. About 25 yrs. or so KOV Albq. had a decent show for all nite truckers. Didnt’ know his name , but his moniker was ( The Duke City Kid ) I could pick it up allover the northern tier states . Ahh the Golden years of Radio, aint’ memory grand?? Catch ya’ on da flip side Cannonball ( another Jim)

Cannonball, YOU ARE talking about the Renfro Valley off U.S. 25 here in Ky.?!

Randy; the best of the luck to ya’ with shiny side up and rubber side down. Always be a little scairt’ of the road and da truck and either one wont’ bite ya’ too hard.

Walt; yep one and the same hill lllllll~~~~

C.W. prayers said at Ghost town Chapel in Casper for you . I’ll be a thinkin’ of all the fine folks at the Diner . In 2 weeks we will be lookin’ toward home, good Lord and Rattler willin’ Respectfully, Cannonball & Shirl.

…switch7frg {Jim}: Great subject. Ole radio days…Even before my growing up days.

I remember by brother {11 yrs. older than I}, would bring in the big band era music and that was really great. Getting a floor model radio for in the home at that time was like getting a big screen TV currently.

On the clear channel stations…{Much later}, as I was still about one day out on the Pacific on one of Uncle Sam’s ships {headed home}…I remember picking up Des Moines, Ia…What a thrill…! “We must be getting close”…Just as a side bar to this conversation: Over seas {Korea}, at that time the best radio I had experience with was a Zenith “Trans-Oceanic” unit…They seemed to have the best ability to pull in far away stations.

By the way {Jim}…Didn’t Larry King have an all night radio program many years ago, even before he arrived on TV…?

Don’t worry, Larry, the load doesent deliver untill 8am Monday, not sure where I’m headed after that, could be Baldwinsville or Goveneur, or some place else…

back in a bit, going for breakfast…

Good Sunday morning to all! Yep, it’s a little cooler here this morning; and our rain chances are upgraded to 70% today.

Joe, thanks so very much for putting the coffee on, making the juice and lemonade! As well as warming up the pizza, and fixing bacon and eggs. Think I’ll add some biscuits to the menu, and fix some gravy, and slice some tomatoes and cataloupe for us all to have, also.

Randy, glad to see you managed to make it back in, and Cannonball, good to see you in also! And thank you for the prayers.

Everyone have a good morning, and I’ll be back in about two or three hours, with the SUNDAY DINNER menu.

Yep!!! I’ve actually been there a couple of times. (years ago) [tup]

Okay IIRC, one or two (or more) of us “Diner Denizens” are George Carlin fans.

He’s to be here in Louisville in Nov. for a show. Doubt we’ll be able to go, but if

any of you want to come this way maybe we can work something out.[;)]

Well, we did manage to get some rain this morning! Not sure if we’ll have more, but the sun is now out, so maybe, maybe not.

SUNDAY DINNER is now on the warmer bar: Italian spaghetti w/your choice of: garlic Texas toast, garlic bread, or garlic breadsticks, along with a garden salad, corn, green sweet peas, and oven roasted new red potatoes, lightly seasoned w/Italian spices.

For dessert today, you have several choices: chocolate cake, apple, cherry or peach pie, and banana pudding.

Everyone have a good afternoon, and be careful out there!!

Quentin; I dont’ recall Larry on all nite . But Joe Pine was the big star in mid 40s ,he was on all nite in different time zones. Mom & Dad had a huge Zenith floor radio, the one with the unblinking green eye . My sis had a Trans Ocean suitcase size that looked like green gator hide on it. Just touch the dial and you were a 1000 mi. away . It is nice to remember things from other folks on this page . All these years were packed in a trunk ,then opened up again years later. This has been very restfull for us here in Boise befor we head to SLC. again to load for Bismark. The Oak & maple ,birch are turning color. ~~~~~ We laid around this ol’ town too long and we gotta travel on.Good to hear from a Hoosier friend . Respectfully, Cannonball & Shirl ( Jim & Shirley )

We’ll address then to you both, Jim and Shirl…Don’t want to slight anyone.

Agree, other folks bring up thoughts of a few years past and bingo, one remembers something at his own homestead…Fun.

Your mention of the Zenith…Brother came home from WWII and started to purchase new furniture to start up a place on their own and some of it was in our home before they got an apartment. One of the items was a brand new Zenith console, blonde in color…radio part pulled out on the right side and set at an angle {with the green eye and all Jim}…and on the top left was a record changer that pulled out…{straight out}, and down on the bottom, believe it was the right side was the speaker with the grill cloth over it, etc…and the left bottom was for record storage and it also contain the Zenith “wave Magnet” antenna…Actually shaped like a magnet…but covered in a red and black fabric…it could be pulled out and placed up on a window for better reception, etc…Can’t remember…but I believe it was short wave, AM and {really}, brand new FM…I’ve seen that same radio console model {many years ago}, used in movie scenes…It did really sound great for that era…

As we said at our Esso Station…Happy Motoring.

Oh, one more thing…Joe Pine…He had a late night TV show way back when…and would get pretty nasty at times…Wonder if it’s the same fellow you speak of being on radio a bit before that…I’d say it was…

(Grabs big plate of spaghetti with garlic bread and garden salad [dinner] )

Quick little question: does you local town now have quiet zones for train crossings? Here in Sacramento, CA they’ve done major upgrades to the crossings on the former Western Pacific (now Union Pacific) tracks that run between 19th and 21st Streets through downtown, which has allowed UP to no longer need to sound the horn before going through every grade crossing.

I’ll grab a bowl of grumpy with a side of raincloud and pout in the corner. Darn Packers beating the Eagles…grr.

You’re in Oshkosh, right? And that makes you mad???[%-)]

Well, guess we’d better ask the cook to make up at least two orders of that; beings how the other member of our household is from Philly!

(and an Eagles Fan, not real happy with the outcome either!)

(no offense Dan, but I thought ALL Wisconsonites were Packer Fans)

([:I] almost used another word…!)

Yes it’s true: I am not a Packer Foamer or is it Fan? Nope it’s Foamer. I will be wearing black most of the week (tomorrow for sure!) and hoping that Reid and his squad come back in better fashion next week. They basically beat themselves.

I heard that a WC SD35 is in Neenah this week. I’ll have to keep a close eye out for it.
