Okay, I thought I knew what I was doing.

The first wierd thing is that I could not program in ad4.

I enter the number, hit enter, get the question, hit Y+ button and nothing.

I did the same with AD2 and hit enter, I got the “Good” response. I was able to run my tests using abreviated codes.

Next wierd thing was the Bachman 0-6-0 decoder.

I tested it on 03 and it worked fine.

Its road number is 2240 so I started there. I entered it and got “No Good”

So I tried ad2 and 224 and still got “No Good” (at least that is what I’m thinking it means.

Anyway, I can’t program it and I can no longer run it on 03.

Any ideas what to do next?

What decoder is in it? Those Bachmann decoders often need a resistor across the program track for it to work.

I heard you mention 100 ohm before. I think I have a bunch of those. I’m not going to disect it to find out which decoder, as I’m having a bad day with fixing things. I’ll include a resistor when I set up my programming track.

Don’t permanently include it, other decoders don’t need such nonsense.

You could try setting the CV’s by hand by programming on the main (OPS programming) CV17, 18, and finally 29 to use the long address.

CV17 = 200

CV18 = 192

CV29 = 38

I have a crapload of decoders, I may just switch the wierd one out.

So what do you guys think is causing the wierdness with AD4 addresses? It’s like my DT400 is not recognizing the Y+ button. This happened on a variety of decoders and I have programmed all these decoders before. I was just forced to renumber because I failed to write down the numbers I had previously assigned.

Well, had you left all the short addresses as 3, and made the long addresses the number on the side of the cab, you wouldn’t have had this memory issue.

Nice in theory, but almost half of my locos are unlettered. Still, I have them written down now.
