Do you have dreams about trains?

Several times I have had dreams about trains going through the farm field just to the east of the house and buildings. Other dreams of a train just across the road on the neighbors farm where my family used to have a farm.

In reality the nearest train tracks were the CGW tracks going through Racine Mn, 3 miles east of our farm.

I don’t believe I have ever dreamt of trains.

I dream about trains. Some nights most of my train dreams consist of me running a really long freight train that consists. Of every kind of rail car I could think of and it starts on the east coast. And it winds though the midwest. And onto the west coast with stops in states to visit for a day or two. MY other dream is running an Amtrak train either the hiwatha from Milwaukee to Chicago or even the Empire builder one or the other would be fun even if it is only a dream.

I do sorta, for the most part they are just somewhere I am trying to get to and often leave before or as I get there, Im sure it means somthing lol. If I ever happen across a train for the most part its just a “Background object” and doesnt actually do anything it just sits there because its out of fuel. Best form of transportation in dream land is walking (or flying if you have the ability [:-^] ) Car’s suck its like they all have manual steering and theres allways somthing blocking your way [xx(]

Its like my dream could go from trying to get to a train to missing it and taking my dad’s old ford van we got rid of like 10 years ago (I learned to drive in that pos) trying to catch the train only the van breaks down or wont start so then the dream shifts to getting the van to work or leaving and going on foot and thats strange in itself because when on foot you can stop and look at things & go inside buildings and let me tell you dream world buildings are strange! some of them are like real buildings with interiors but some are like hollywood movie facade where it looks like a building outside but the inside is toatly unfinished [%-)]

Oh yeah sometimes there are streetcar’s in my dreams when they get low budget and are filmed in Toronto [:P]

No dreams about trains. If things come to that, i’m seeking help.

No, I don’t recall ever having a dream about a train, but I must admit that some mornings after waking up and recalling some of my dreams from the night before I wish I did have train related dreams (nice ones, of course).

On extremely rare occasions I dream about trains. One dream that I had some years ago was most bizarre in it’s ending. I dreamed that I was riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad through the Las Animas Canyon in Colorado, and the train’s final destination turned out to be Woodlawn Cemetery here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In my dream I remember the train pulled up in front of the spot where my Dad was laid to rest in August of '91.

I have since then wondered if someone “upstairs” was trying to tell me that I’d better enjoy trains while I am still living…

Honestly I will have to answer yes to this question. I frequently have train related dreams and have even written some peoms and a short story about the experiences I had in them. Should I be gettin counseling or something for this? I think I may have an addiction.[swg]

I think I should stop talking now, before I scare someone.[:-^]

I used to when I was little. They always involved train wrecks or something, and I was always too close for comfort…[xx(]

Maybe you could buy full page ads in Trains Magazine, to share your poetry. Oops! Too late, someone beat you to it.[:)]

My dreams about trains are usually nightmares–something I forgot to do at work leading to a disaster, stuff like that. Sort of like the dreams a student has about forgotten homework, or dreams about forgotten articles of clothing (believe it or not, I still have those, too!). I guess the pleasant times have to remain in the real world. [sigh]

Ummm… No.

Well, a long time ago, I did have this dream where I was standing on top of a signal bridge watching an approaching train. Then suddenly, for no reason, I threw myself off of it, only to be violently awakened as soon as I hit the ground. [:O]

Is that weird? (did I mention I have a mild fear of heights?)

Other than that, um, “interesting” experience, I have no memory of other railroad-related dreams.

Ummm. Is there a psychiatrist in the house?

I had a dream that CONRAIL took over CSX…[zzz]

I have had a few dreams with trains in the background and foreground.

One train watching dream featured an Intermodal Stack Train with the containers stacked FIVE Containers High in each unit of the well-car. That would cause clearance problems somewhere.

Another train watching dream featured regular freight cars stacked on top of each while being moved inside Intermodal Container Cars.

The most frequent dream is that the abandoned PRR-PC single track line from Vicksburg to Kalamazoo had actually been rebuilt to become a 5 track yard.

The most unsettling one was where the little used transfer track between GTW and CR was unearthed through the front yard and driveway as a local freight rolled through the front yard and straight through the corner of the garage.

I have many dreams with trains in them. Sometimes a train is in the background, but many times I have dreams with a whole bunch of trains in them. The most frequent train dream I have is one where Amtrak or some freight train passes right in front of my house, kind of like in the Polar Express. Then there’s another dream where I see a train coming, usually one that has something different on it (like a new locomotive or something) and I have my video camera, but for some reason I don’t have enough time to get it running before the train is gone.

If I think long enough I’m sure I’ll remember other dreams as well…[:-^]

According to family history, I fell in love with trains at first sight when 4 years old, about 1950. It’s funny, but although when I’m having trouble sleeping I will try to railroad my way to sleep, it never works. In some kind of group therapy thing about 15 years ago we were asked to imagine the most pleasant place we’d like to be. Mine was an interlocking plant (Zoo tower in Philly?) on a busy Spring day.

I would imagine that railroaders have (not so good) dreams about their workplace the same way I have them about mine. My CEO can’t keep from rearrranging stuff. Our nickname for this is MSM or Moving S*** Mindlessly. A lot of my (not so good) dreams have me coming from the office to the counter and looking at about 200 customers with one after another of the computer terminals not working. They’ve got cash in hand and the boss is still trying to wire the counter.

Sweet dreams if ya got em,

Just like SchemerBob, I have very real dreams about trains - mostly running through the streets and backroads of my city. I try to get photos of what I’m seeing in dreamland, but my camera is never where I can find it - or I can’t remember how to get it into the ON position.

In my wildest imagination I will take photos of the trains in my dreams, and have them processed and printed in real “awake” time. An idea for Steven King, don’t you think?

Just for grins I went to a dream interpretation site. Evidently having dreams about trains has nothing to do with being a railfan. I won’t go into details here, you can look for it yourself. I also have dreams about tornadoes, and other things I’d rather not mention, and none of the dreams had anything to do with toranadoes themselves or anything else I dream about.
