ELLIOT's Trackside Diner VI: The Full Meal Deal!

I got the DPDT switch set up. I post pics later…

No prob., just now going over to Jeff’s board, lol. Been a real slow day for me.

At risk of possibly getting the next page…

Good evening. I’m taking Mom to a bar. Friends’ get-together, no she isn’t going to gwt drunk. But I’ll joke with her about anyway. Dad and I are gonna work some more on the layout. *(Translation: Dad and I are gonna go up to the layout room and find a bunch of layout-related things that aren’t building the layout.)

Tom: Sorry for Remi’s asthsma. If I may mention him, I can’t help but think of how much calmer your trips with Lowell to the vet turned out. Get better furry.

So, best to all tonight. Prayers for those in need. PC, “brother” whom I don’t think I know. and others.

Hey ya’ll.

Well after work today I spent about 2 hours weathering 7 hopper cars. I learned in the procsess why a friend said the Krylon Matte-finish is junk, since it’ doesn’t cover evenly, so I’ll use dullcote from here on out.

I’m wondering if it’s possible to use those cheap acrylic paints (like delta creamcoat) through an airbrush for a dusting effect. I have a tube of a color called “Charcoal black” and it looks really close to grimy black. I’m curious as how to get a light coat so I can speed up weathering on the rest of my coal hoppers; since it would take me close to 6 hours to do the rest of them (calculating from 7 in 2 hours, a kind of guess)

Tommorow is going to be a train day. Going to the club in the morning, then after that a club member is holding a session. What a way to start off the year.

To All,

Recent events in life, coupled with the whole New Years thing, have caused me to look a little closer at the things I hold as valuable to me. I mean, New Years is a time of retrospect and hope for the future. A recent death in my family has also gotten me to thinking along these lines. Someone who is close to you passing on into the afterlife will do that to you sometimes, you know?

After much thought and concideration, I think I’ve boiled it all down to the simple question of, “What’s it worth to me…really?” What I mean by this, is what are the things that I hold dear to me, you know, like close to the heart, and then what are the things that I can hold a little more loosely.

My first love is my Savior, Jesus the Christ. He is the one thing that gives the rest of life meaning.

My wife and my children are my second love. I know that if all else fails, they will stand with me and they will always keep me pointed to the most impostant thing, my God and my Savior. In this way, I have been greatly blessed indeed!

But there’s another blessing I have that rates way up there, and that’s my friends. By that, I don’t just mean my friends that I see in my everyday life, the ones I hang out with and share meals with, but also my online friends. I mean, I’ve always placed value on my online friends, don’t get me wrong, but I’d failed to realize how much I’ve come to value you all. What I’m saying I think, is that

I’m preparing to settle in my so called train room witth some close friends and doing the same thing PC just said—PC-you took the words out of my compooter! but that is right—look around and count the blessings each of us were given—All of you—be safe and have a HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

Well guys and gals its another cold night!!! I feel bad for the peolpe out to watch the ball drop, or here in Pittsburgh watch it rise. Its to cold for me.

Packer, Aggro said using “Future Floor Finish” works good for a dull look. Just put it in the airbrush and spray away. To clean just use water. I’m not sure if you mix it thou. I can’t remeber.

My weathered boxcar sold, which helps me out. Do I do another, I dont know. This boxcar is going to Australia. I have to make sure its boxed up real good.

I guess I will finish up watching “Saving Private Ryan.” I really like that movie. After that nooooooo idea.

Well everybody have a goodnight and a safe one.

Robby

Went to the not so local HS in Alexandria today and picked up these goodies.

Model Power #688 Shell Station with tanker truck.

Model Power #409 Fire Department kit.

Atlas #606 Passenger Station.

Evening, Chloe - I bet you were about to send the hounds out looking for me, huh? Hey, I’m on vacation (till Friday, anyway), and running odds and ends and errands. Oh, I’ll have a hot cocoa for now, and when it gets closer to midnight, I’ll have some wine to toast the New Year in. Thanks!

Ten Eleven pages to catch up? I’ll probably be missing something, I’m sure, since I’m gonna just skim through 'em…

PC, add my thoughts and prayers for you and your family. If you didn’t locate that song I told you about, I’ll email you the lyrics until you can get a listen to it. And thank you for your sentiments (and back atcha, brother)!

Jeff, that house of yours made me think of the Grandt Line (Corrugated Warehouse?) building - its backside, at least. I have plans to later get one of those and put it with the McGraw Oil Co. kit (that I do have), as the warehouse for the oil company (and where all those cases of auto oil are stored until being shipped out). It looks like you had a successful trip to the other (not-as) LHS. Good acquisitions!

Lee, at least you’ll have trustworthy wiring by the time you get it all rebuilt and done. That’s kinda scary to think that you’d been living in the house for years with that wiring the way it apparently was. How’s your postal carrier doing lately - better, I hope? Glad your DCC shipment arrived - have fun learning that, and we’ll expect your tutorial in a couple of weeks, right? [swg] And it’s even neater that Dorothy got you the radio version. Remember that you need to plug the throttle into a jack to acquire/dispatch a loco (from what I’ve observed with guys in our club who have been using Digitrax a while). Once you’ve acquired the loco, you can unplug and play to your heart’s content…[yeah] By the way, do you have pics of your DPM/REA building? I have that kit, and may want to see how you added cargo doors to it, wh

Would you? That would be awesome! To tell the truth, in all that was going on I forgot to look it up, but I meant to.

Philip- Very touching. I am sorry about your loss. I’m not being flippant. My grampa passed on my birthday in 1964. I can still see him in my mind and hold dear his memory.

Thankyou for your many postings and your friendship.

May this New Year bring you and your family Health and Happiness.

Flip

Hi Jim- Yeah I sneak in now and then. And NO, I will not be at the party tonight. I don’t want anyone to be able to say, It Was Flip who pinched her. lol.

With me just getting over a BAD cold, didn’t work for two weeks, and Deb having her problems, it will be a very quiet night.

Wish all a better New Year. And a BIG thankyou for the friendship .Flip.

hey guys, I love the horn in the first part of this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzEeq3S-eYg

CHLOE!!!

Inch won’t stop swinging from the light fixture, and if Rob keeps that up he’s gonna fall out the window like he did at last years party!

Make 'em knock it off! (I know she’ll whip 'em back in line!)

[:D]

Well, just finished off setting off the fireworks with my sister (she had some from July 4th). We are not celebrating 2009 as much because we (me&parents) leave at 4 a.m. tomorrow to drive to New York City. The sisters go to grandma’s in Sarasota. The dog is also on edge and is trying to calm herself.

We took down all things Christmas today. Since I haven’t had the chance, I’ll mention some of the stuff I got. The movies Get Smart and 300. Madden '09 for Wii; Indian arrowheads (courtesy grandma) an AMC card (also grandma), some books, gift cards to book stores, and a Gregorian chant CD (among other things.

For my little sister I bought the new Harry Potter storybook and for my older little sister I bought some shirts. I gave my mom an Otis Redding CD and my dad a book by Dexter Filkins called The Forever War.

Jim: I’m used to hurricanes by now. I’ve been through a few and usually come out intact. I can’t say the same for the neighbors tree though. In 2004 it crashed and blocked the street. Due to the storm I missed two weeks of school. Last time Tampa was directly hit by hurricane: 1921. Which is somewhat relieving…

Rob: Yeah, I could stand to watch Saving Private Ryan again, but I saw Kelly’s Heroes instead.

Pc: Lol, Chloe is ex marines.[(-D] In the words of Jack Sparrow “Hide the rum!”

I’m going to hold my dad to it to bring out my layout for about a month…

Who knows how to add a photo in that picture to the left; the one below your screen name.

Eggnog, please & thanks.

***Jeffrey, please tell me your layout already has a Fire Station and this new model will be a second one!?!?

***Jim, mailed the contractor a check last Friday and have heard nothing back from him. His move, but he has a lot at stake (including his license) if he tries pushing the issue. No need to go into details here.

When wife went to pick up her folks, she met her mom at the door starting to collapse. Thought her mom was having a stroke, but after a few minutes she came around. Unsettling. No idea what it was, but at least it passed and both are fine here tonight.

Picked up a couple Greenmax Factory accessory sets, to work into my Soylent Green Plant (when the time comes to begin that project).

It will be in the 20’s here in the wee hours, so tonight I hand carried some hay & alfalfa to the front pasture to get them through until morning. Good thing I checked, as they had run out.

Hope to be sleeping when the new year arrives. HAPPY NEW YEAR, friends.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Hi Gang, Just stopped in before bed. I’m like Rob, I won’t be waiting up for the new year as I have to work all day tomorrow. But I didn’t want to miss wishing all the good people here, that I indeed call my friends, a very Happy and Blessed New Year. My hope for each of you is that 2009 will be far superior to what 2008 has been.

There has been alot of very blue times for our crew here with health problems and home (HOUSE) problems, but with a wonderful spirit and good friends to support us and uplift us we have managed to over come, and that my friends is SUCCESS, and what friendship is all about.

I borrowed the image below from Philip as I thought it was darn cute. Hope you don’t mind Philip.

See you all back here in 2009. Sweet Dreams and sleep well good Buddies.

Johnboy out… May the Rails never be silent.

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

so there------[(-D][(-D][:-^][bow]

Happy new year (almost.

3 pages in one day – WOW we chatter a bunch!

We have about 4” of snow here and some flurries as the Alberta clipper moves off to Maine or the Finger Lakes (you guys enjoy it). They had to close parts of the main highways to re-salt the roads.

Dorothy is on her way over and I have Chinese dinner waiting and a bottle of M&R Asti Spumoni chilling in the fridge (I got the last bottle from the Base Exchange).

Walthers sale catalog came today: HO-Scale vehicles are almost 50% off this month!

Garry drive safe, I’m guessing you will be hitting I-75 through Toledo to the Ohio River.

Jim, I hope to work on it this weekend. The prototype REA building in downtown Cleveland is still standing, but it is so big that the delivery trucks actually parked inside the building, my version is for a smaller outlaying town so the linen mil was the perfect fit. I used .020 V-Grove to make sliding cargo doors. I’ll have pictures to share….

2009 hat2 more hours to go. We are listening to the local rock station’s 999 countdown of most popular rock sounds. I can’t believe how many old ones are up there. Listeners vote. Lots of Pink Floyd this year.

After running errands this afternoon, we made a trip to Cabella’s. You can get lost in there.

You guys are sure getting rowdy.

Sue
