enemy of the layout

was just wondering how every one fights that arch enemy - dust

thanks and merry christmas to all

With my compressor…set VERY low.

Our layout is in a spare bedroom so it is typically cleaner than a garage, attic or basement layout. Behind the grill for the supply air HVAC duct I have a filter. There are hardwood floors, and the door to the room is usually closed. To dust when needed a swiffler on the extended handle does a good job.

Just kiddin’…

Perhaps it is the height of my layout (approx 41" above ground), but I don’t seem to get much dust (even though the basement ceiling in this area is bare rafters). I tend to have more of a problem with cob-webs. I try to reduce the amount of particles down by keeping my sawing and sanding outdoors. I keep an old cannister vacuum cleaner with the bristle adaptor to run between the rails, and a very soft bristle brush to clear rooftops.

I’m now using a Carrier brand air cleaner and it works great, I just have too pull the blades out every week or so and clean them and boy do they get dirty.

I tried the little computer type key board vacs but found it too take half a day too clean all the details on my layout so I figured I’d try and eliminate the dust BEFORE it got too settle on my layout.

I get little dust because of the materials I use don’t show it so much - that said, I use a duster on a home-made extended pole (to get into the corners) to gently go over roofs and unexpected cobwebs.
