Drink up. 58 degrees out. Unbelievable. Have a great month ahead.
Yup. I just realized that a new pot was in order as I was catching up on the January pot - after I had already posted.
Wow, page 1…been a long time since I have done that!
I posted once but I guess the tablet ate the post, so I’ll try again!!
Princess called to say she missed me and said that she and the BF want to move back, so, I’ll have to step up the house hunting…she’s on day 6 of a 7 day work week…I’m just starting my 6 day week.
New access point seems to be working, so maybe I can cut back on my data plan.
Awaiting packages from Hillside, NJ and South Carolina…coming in tomorrow!!
First night of my Orange Fitness trial tomorrow, so I’ll see how old I really am…lol!!!
Just took my vertigo meds so I’ll try to get back to sleep now…happy February everybody!!
Be back when I can…
Mornin’ boys. Partly sunny & 47 in the Mid-Atlantic region. S’posed to get warmer with rain. Hopefully nature will wash away all the road salt. I was given a reprieve, no boy today. Wifey handed me a list of honeydoos. When it’s time to paint, hopefully I can find someone to help that says he does a pretty good job and is only a 45 minute drive away…
submmbob - funny how the planks “shrunk” the appearance of the terminal down.
Morning all! Got some good train running time this weekend with the boy. Picked up an IC car carrier last week from Da Bay which he is really enjoying – his Hot Wheels fit perfectly in the racks!
Last week did a lot of post-move organizing in the basement which resulted in quite a bit more usable space. Hooked up an old TV in the train area so now the area is becoming a bit of a rec space that’s comfortable to hang out in. At the end, the wife said she’d like to learn more about trains since Noah and I are spending so much time in the basement together - pretty cool! Of course her first suggestion was to completely rebuild the layout…
Morning, 29 heading to 43, 50s tomorrow then down it will head.
Pay day, Bills and pick up meds for today.
Your lucky Chief, The DNR here will come right on your land if they think they need to or your neighbor rats you out. Your property don’t mean squat to them when it comes to poaching or taking protected critters. Once they showed up at Brian’s door up the lane because someone reported deer poaching going on, on his land. Good thing is was not Brian. The power of the DNR in Wisconsin is even worse.
Ran the twin motor ALCO B-unit for over two hours yesterday. All is A-OK! [Y]
Thanks again to 8N, and John for the idea and help.
Bob, my 78 LUV rusted to dust in eight years still running good, just nothing left to drive. Made from to many tin cans I guess. [(-D]
Over 50 murders in Chicago, countless injured in January and they have some of the tightest gun laws in the country. So what does that tell ya? [%-)]
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RT
Aloha. Looks like a nice day - sunny and 40s. I hope to get out to the rink across the street during lunchtime. (I bought my skates to work.)
Happy birthday RT! [^]
Roy, thanks for the antenna advice - it sure is interesting. The antenna I put atop the garage a few years ago and it’s defintely dead. Everything checks out OK but it doesn’t pick anything up anymore - I’m 43 miles from the transmitters so that doesn’t help either. I think the weather just killed it. I’ll look for that old school antenna. I also have to think through the coax cabling as currently everything goes into the basement and up; rather than from the attic down.
Morning all!
Page 1 - sweet!
RT - [bday]
To hit 75 today, cold front tomorrow - 40’s - reprieve is over…
DougM - let me know if I can assist on the antenna. Good luck.
Happy Birthday RT. [bday]
I think I got your present today, I got gas for $1.249 [Y]
Mornin’ All.
Yesterday was a great veg-out day, rainy and cold made it great to just crash on the couch. Only bad part was the cable was out most of the day and into the evening, no TV or Net. [sigh]
Real humdinger of a storm came thru late last nite, big winds and lots of hail. The harbor took a pretty good shot Fife so if you are looking for a saiboat at a really cheap price there should be quite a few that will be available, just bring your snorkel, wet suit and patdhing supplies.
Friday and Saturday at the museum went well, no catastrophies. [<:o)]
RT, [bday].
Had to reread Roy’s post, went fast and thought RT was celebrating a 75th birthday. Here’s my sign [D)].
Need to go out in a bit to check the cars to see if there was any hail damage, should have checked earlier but I was
Fife - you know the number.
Putting things back this morning I noticed how the new foyer color really sets off the oak railings and hall table we have. Very pleased with this choice. Now to find something I like for the basement. Need a lighter color as what is there looks like you are going into a dungeon…
No Doug just 61 please don’t age me any faster than I’am [:)] Thanks guys Beautiful here today they say it’s only 68 well it feels warmer than that I’m out there in a T-shirt and plenty warm. I need to get a outside thermometer I don’t trust these weather guessers.
Rained good yesterday good I survived driving in it and walking from the parking lot to church and back OK. Today windy and cold, 59.
I had a 72 Datsun pickup bought new and after owning V8’s all my life and being a hot rod fan quickly grew to hate the gutless thing. To be fair 4 cyl. technology greatly improved since then. It probably was rated at 80 Hp, I don’t remember.
My current Integra GSR is rated at170 HP with a 8,100 redline and revs willingly to that. It really isen’t fast compared to a V8 car but it feels fast and is a joy to drive.
8ntruck All industrial arts classes are long gone here, your expected to go to college.
To this day I believe I would have dropped out if I had gone to college, I just wasen’t that interested or responsible, I did go to jr college some.
I liked being a machinist and was lucky to be a machinist during the heyday of the space race and other. You knew when you were doing a good job so it was satisfying often.

dougnotta - Ouch.
Doug M., Sent you a message.
V8, I identify with your story. I had just a few courses from college but was not interested in pursuing a career that required it at the time. I just did clerical jobs for about 20 years then finally landed a job on the railroad which is what I wanted to do all along. If it were’nt for that, I probably would have been unable to retire when I did. With your knowledge of being a machinist, you could probably have built a live steamer to play with like the ones they run in Griffith Park. I’ve heard that you had to be a machinist to build one of those things. One company called “Little Engines” in Lomita, Calif. had an add for years that said “just bolt em together”. That was not quite true according to most of those guys I have talked to. I think even Walt Disney had to learn some machinist skills to build his 1 1/2" scale 4-4-0 “Lilly Belle” which he ran all around his house. This from the book, “The Walt Disney Railroad Story”.

Howdy all!
Welp, went to the Train Station to exchange Corey’s Xmas present for something else - he ended up coming home with this:
Pretty neat - if he hadn’t gotten it I might have.
By the way, just went to the Lionel site to search for that - I can’t say enough bad things about their site redesign. Whoever the web designer was for that should be flogged. Doing a simple search is now a major headache in terms of getting around on their site. As someone who is in this field, all I can do is shake my head.
Weather is really warming up here - 60’s today and Wednesday, tomorrow will be around 50. Then back to the cold. Possible storms Friday and Sunday, but the probabilities are fairly low for each.
Have a good one!
As I remember Little Engines you could buy the castings with all the machining required or buy already machined but that was much more expensive. The boiler is the biggest expense in a live steamer.
Yes I would have it much easier than someone trying to learn machining while building a live steamer.
3 prisoners escaped from the jail here, they had nothing to loose, they were murders. So the big news story here for a week. They have been captured now.
The LA Times had big long articles of all the details of how they got out and what they did while out and how they were captured. Interesting story.
Good evening all,
Good day at work. Did not walk much at noon. Got all caught up the first day of the month, which does not always happen. Got the latest Trains in the mail today, which has a nice article on the Hoosier State passenger train. I do have some belated sad news. Sarah Fisher, which again the people who have been here awhile know much I respect her, is no longer involved as a car owner in Indycar racing. While she still will be doing some work with “Special” Ed’s team, her major partner, Wink Hartmann, had to cut his expenses due to the oil crash and that ended Sarah’s ownership days. Sometimes life is just not fair…Sarah was a “real” racer… Maybe she will be involved again…someday. Jane the Virgin is on tonight. Happy birthday, RT! I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
