Ya I know I should be looking for Baseball figures this time of year, but while visiting relatives in Pittsburgh, I saw an O scale Train display with Steeler Football players complete with rival teem, referee, goal posts, stands, fans, and scoreboard. I’ve been searching the net and I can’t find anything like this. I imagine if I could just find the players I might be able to paint them and make everything else.
At YORK there was a guy in the PURPLE hall that had them, I don’t know his name though, sorry. I f I find out I will post. I’ll try and look at the TCA site.
Yeah - He was in the Purple Hall selling Black & Gold, Orange & Black, and Orange & Brown (but no Purple & Black) players. He said the Black & Gold were his best sellers but the customers only wanted true rival players as opponents… said he had to take a loss when he carried the Purple & Black players as most of the time he couldn’t field an entire team because so many were in jail. [:-^]
A couple of years ago on this forum someone posted pictures…had an actual baseball field set up on their layout in a more urban setting (like Fenway or Wrigley), players and all. Looked really neat. The figures looked pretty much to scale too, though “the fences” were short. Space considerations.
I like the look of a work crew, a hobo scene, someone working at a beer factory or a grain business, fishing in a creek, or waiting on a passenger train platform. The human form gives a lot of life to the ambience.
As a long shot, you might try to look for an old electric football game - one of the old ones that had plastic players and a vibrating table. Would be some work involved painting the players - providing you could find any.
Thanks, they are a little more than I wanted to spend. It looks like they might be pewter. I wish I knew how to use them as a mold to make resin ones, but after looking at them I don’t think I’m skilled enough to paint on numbers.
While I was searching for them I came across some N-scale football players. They weren’t NFL but they were pretty intricate with numbers and everything. I can’t see why they can’t make them in O-scale. N-scale was only $13.
Thanks, I found this but I don’t know what scale this would be.
The football cake kit by Wilton would make a really nice birthday themed football cake. These football cake decorations comes with 8 football players that are 1-1/2" to 2" tall and 2 football goal posts that are 4-1/2" high.
Easy to determine scale. O Scale is 1/4" = 12". Based on this the 1 1/2" tall players would be about 6’ tall. Pretty accurate. Just take the 2" tall ones and have them join the NBA. They can always use a few 8’ tall players!
My layout would not be complete without Bigfoot, Aliens, Alien spacecraft, the Lochness Monster and a Michael Jackson figure in O scale. The search begins.
