got my nov issue of CTT today

Haven’t sat down into it yet but it has what apears to be interesting articles “make simple scenery” now that sounds right for me lol

I got mine today, too. Looks good.

Huge CONGRATS to our own raymans on his layout article. Now the rest of the CTT community can share in what we’ve been enjoying each week on SPF.

I just got mine too. Kent Johnson’s layout is AMAZING!! It’s probably the first layout I’ve seen in CTT that has a staging yard and an operating freight yard. I love the huge CP motive power.

Thanks fifedog

I am honored to have my layout in this magazine and to share it with pics and articles from several other very talented members, like Al, Frank, Mark, Norm and many others.

And yes Kent’s layout is AMAZING!

Looking forward to mine…hope it comes soon!

Got mine. Way to go Ray[bow]

Good morning all,

I got mine as well. Looks to be a good issue.

Keep on training,

I received mine on the West Coast yesterday! It looks great. It has some neat layout articles. I really like Kent’s layout.

The only suggestion I have to improve the layout articles, at least for me, is to have some photos showing the overall layout, or at least as much as possible. The vignettes shown in the close up photos are great. They really show the detail and craftsmanship. But, I would like to see a mix of close ups and larger views so I can get a better sense of what the layout looks like overall.

Thanks for your comment about the need to put in photographs of the overall layout. As one who often goes out on the road and handles the photography of layouts featured in CTT, I am in a position to offer answers.

Whenever anyone on the CTT staff prepares a feature on a layout, we want to include at least one picture that shows as much of the layout as is possible. We know how important and how popular these pictures are.

However, it is not always possible to take such shots.

One reason is that the configuration of the layout makes it impossible to get every section into a single shot. Or towering mountains hide sections of the layout.

Another big reason for not including overall shots is that sometimes the layout is in an unfinished basement. Therefore, an overall shot would also show bare overhead beams, dangling wires, appliances, bare light bulbs, and other elements that the layout owner does not want to show. Out of respect for him, we choose not to include such pictures.

Our goal at CTT is to present each and every layout we feature in the best way that we can. Usually, that means we will include an overall shot–as a service to the layout owner and all of our readers. Occasionally, though, such shots are not possible or are not flattering to the layout owner.

So if an overall shot is missing, please understand that this omission is not accidental. We know what a good story needs and have left out an overall shot when it does not do justice to the excellence of the layout.

Thanks for your understanding.

Roger,

Thank you for the well thought out reply. I’ll keep the reasoning in mind when reading layout articles in the future.

I also really like the plan view graphic of the layout with the overall dimensions. I get plentiful ideas from the layout plans.

There are usually some very good articles in the CTT mag. Maybe I am overlooking something but where is the events page, the page or two that lists trains and things happening currently? I did not see the events page.
