Great ride!
Fabulous cab ride - would be good if we could see, or purchase, the entire ride
Yes, nice ride indeed. Even better would be the narrow gauge ride on the RHB (Rhätische Bahn) over the Albula Pass. Rudy, a Swiss guy
Beautiful country and a nice train ride. That must be exciting for Jim.
Ah very nice cab ride, it’s a pitty that by 2019 one will be probably ‘passing under’ all these beautiful landscape (it’s when the base tunnel will open, at least it is expected to open, even new trains have been ordered from Stadler). Anyway, some comments. The ‘filmmaker’ got lucky, by seing SBB’s tunnel maintenance train passing, and also a ‘lighter’ freight with a pair of RE 420s (RE 4/4 IIs in the ancient Swiss designation of mnotive power). And yes, track design is ‘lighter’ but planned to maximise capacity on this line, wich is a ‘premium commodity’ for operators, since it’s an open access route. Other remarks;the old type of signals still in use (in swiss parlance ‘analog signal system’, versus the more modern ‘digital’ in wich track speed can be presented to enginneers on a panel just under the signal target), mixed with both the older ZUB and more modern ERTMs cab signal system. And, by the way, was this an ‘older’ locomotive (i.e. not an Re 460), or one of SBB’s historic railcars ? With the tickticktick typical of Hasler type speedometers and the whining of traction motors, it seems to be so
Wonderful! It brought back fabulous memories when i lived in Switzerland in the 1980’s. I rode and railfanned Swiss railways incessantly and it is still just as exciting. Thanks to Trains for bringing railroading to our screens and mailboxes.
Good Lord, I recognize a lot of this ride from my YouTube European Train spotting videos! So that is a tunnel maintenance train, there is a similar consist that sits on a siding in the station at Brenner Pass I think. Klasse mitfahrt Jim!
Thanks for the amazing train ride through the Alps.

Thanks, Jim. It’s fantastic cab ride. We want more!
What a wonderful system the Swiss have. And it’s all electric! We in the USA could learn something from this system, especially since we must ultimately switch our railroads to all-electric because of the need to wean ourselves from petroleum fuels due to the climate change implications. I realize that would be expensive, but not as expensive as continuing with our profligate use of fossil fuels.
Very interesting video. The only problem was with the titles, they were on the screen too long and blocked too much of the video.
thank you. It reminds me of a series on PBS back in the '70s. It was called Swiss Railway Journeys.
GREAT RIDE AND BEAUTIFUL COUNTRYSIDE !!! Love your mag. — Been reading it for many, many years— Gets better all the time !!! THANKS for all the enjoyment !!! Keep up the GREAT WORK !!!
WOW!
thank you,I`have travelled this line at least 4 times a year since 1944, exept the 9 years i spent in USA
I have been to Switzerland, and this video brought back beautiful memories of my trip. I saw many different trains, Switzerland is such a beautiful country, I would love to visit again. Thank you Trains for posting this gorgeous video.
Loved this. Would like MORE videos of the ride from inside the cab. Dream vacation for me. That and Canadian Rockies. Thanks!
Very nice ride. Thank you!
I’ll declare an interest I’m Australain and rail in both Europe and US interest me. Swiss rail is brilliant. Have been over, or rather under Gotthard plus Semmering and Aalberg in Austrai. Well worth a trip. Food and beers good as well !!!
You had a very nice trip !
Just a correction : the red train seen between 1:11 and 1:24 is NOT a maintenance train but one of the extinction and rescue trains of the SBB.
