Harley Davidson

Are there any contact point between railroading (or model railroading) and Harley Davidson?. Thanks.

Huh?[%-)]Not quite sure what your asking?

I mean any railroad equipment made for Harley Davidson, a crane or switcher loco for their factory, or rolling stock to carry their motorcycles, with their logo in the sides, etc.

Last Christmas I saw an HO gauge starter set with nothing but Harley Davidson equipment. I don’t remember where i saw it, but it was out there somewhere in one of the major department stores. Maybe Macy’s?

I sure do miss my 1:1 Harleys. I owned two of them years ago. A 1978 - 1000 (In actuality it was a 993 ) Sportster and a 1983 / 80 FLH. (The first years when Harley bought back their company from AMF and beefed up the motor from a 74 cu.in. to an 80 cu. in. shovelhead.) Now my knees and feet are really bad and i can’t ride them anymore…chuck

Nothing prototypical as far as I know, just train sets for propriganda purpases.

Depending on how accurate Google earth is, it doesn’t look like the tracks right next to the factory actually serve the factory.

Not sure if this link will work or not.

Prototype, I doubt it. I’m pretty sure all their stuff ships by truck. The only time I’ve seen bikes on a train was an episode of CSI.
Someone made an HO Harley set. I believe it was that place that advertises in the Sunday paper. You subscribe and get a new piece every other month or something like that. I remember it had an F unit. Probably a Bachmann train.

I bought that HD starter kit through a Walthers sale catalog about a year ago, just to have a loco and rolling stock with with the HD logos. I ride an Ultra Classic, and I find it fun to meld 2 of my hobbies together.

BTW: I want to add a HD dealer to my HO layout. The only thing I found in Walthers master catalog is an O scale HD dealer.

Anyone ever see a HO HD dealer, or will I need to kitbash?

Ride Safe,

Correction:

Now that I think about it, I did not order that HD HO set from Walthers. I think I saw it either in a Sunday mag supplement or a HD or a HOG magazine. I threw away the invoice so I cannot tell you just where I got it.

You might try looking at the HD online catalog. Also, I saw a HD train set similar to what I ordered a few years ago at a HD dealer during Christmas time.

Back in I believe 2000 HD sold a HO scale dealership kit,a factory kit and a corporate headquarters kit made by walthers and sold at HD dealerships. I purchased the dealership kit at a HD dealer from the closeout table for $10.00. I also purchased the corporate headquartes from E-Bay. If you go to E-Bay you will find HO scale train sets and O scale train sets and rolling stock. Occasionally you will find the HO scale building kitsfor sale.

A couple years ago I bought a Harley-Davidson Factory kit. Don’t know if it really is a model of the actual factory, but I do know they bring a premium on ePay now.

I’ll try to dig it up and take pics.

If you are patient and keep trying you can get good deal on E-bay. I paid $32.00 plus $10.00 shipping for the corp headquarters. I believe they were $50.00 when they came out.

The Harley-Davidson collectors train set was made by Walther’s. I found it on page 13 of the December '05 catalog. It listed for $169.

Like I said in a earlier post I have the Dealership. Which is the Wallschlager Motors kit made by Walthers 931-805. All you would have to do is make some HD decals.

A motorcycle magazine (Cycle World, I think) once did an article comparing a Harley with UP 844.

I used to work for Harley-Davidson, they had Walthers make a number of train sets over the years. They were mostly the trainline? series trains and the last set that I remember was the 2003 centennial set. They overproduced this set so they went back to Walthers who sold them as returned stock. You may still find the sets at dealers who want to charge a high price as they have not been made for a number of years.

Harley also had Walthers made a number of kits among them as mentioned before, the Walshinger Auto sales building, but they substituted H-D decals for a motorcycle shop. They also build a factory building based on one of the Walthers standard factory kits, again with H-D decals. The third kit I have seen was the billboard set with H-D billboard information.

I picked up the H-D dealer kit and the billboards on sale at a dealer who was selling them out, and then got my 20% employee on top of the sale price. These kits did date from prior to 2000 so I doubt if any of them are still around. I must have visited over 150 dealers before I saw one with these in stock when I got mine.

As compared with Car Dealers H-D dealers sell clothing, collectibles, glassware, etc. which probably makes up close to 25% of all their sales.

Rick

There are two corporate headquaters kits listed on E-Bay one with 4 days left and one with five days…

Propriganda purpases? I think they were produced more for the advertising factor not for “propaganda purposes”. [%-)]They probably just wanted to jump on the collector bandwagon.

Walther’s carries quite a bit of Harley stuff, all in O scale or larger. Us HO’rs got left out.
