The brake squeal feature in my Lionel New York Central starter set is driving me nuts. At anything over half speed the squeal goes off on its own every once and a while, even though the train is going along at a set even speed. It’s annoying as hell.
Is there anyway to elimate the squeal feature and keep the other sounds?
I’ve noticed that a quick drop in amperage usually trigures the squealing flange sounds in my engines. So you gotta find that spot on the layout where this is occuring. I find that making sure the track is snug together and cleaned usually corrects this. You also may be losing amps on a tangent of track around a switch, in which feeder wires will prevent this.
To me, at least on my rail sounds engines, the brake squeal is the most unrealistic of all the sounds. Its not a squeal, it sounds like shovel drug over cement. [swg]
