I keep seeing topics from 1-2 years ago all the sudden resurrecting. Is someone doing some thread cleaning, or just now remembering to answer them???
I often wonder about that. What do people do? Do they search and find a topic that died two years ago and then answer it thinking that the original poster is still looking for an answer?
Well give me a year to think this over and I will get back to you [:D]
Although some people ressurect threads because they have the same or a very similar problem that maybe wasn’t answered in the current replies (but I’m sure that there are people that do it just to make the others angry). Basically there’s a choice: have a thread ressurected or have a new thread on the same topic. Personally I don’t really care…
I vote crazy [:p]
I was just wondering, as haven’t seen this for a while and now all the sudden it’s like the weeds in my backyard, a new one pops up every hour [censored] < about the weeds not the returning threads…
Or they are brand new people to the form that don’t realize they weren’t posted yesterday. I know when I first came on board I read through everything. I had no idea some of the posts were years old. How often does one really check the “date” of the original message they are responding to. I never do. Now I do recognize some of the threads, but if I didn’t I wouldn’t never know they were old.
I actully wish people would go through and read the old one messages more often instead of posting the same “survey” over and over.
Yeah, with the surveys it could get annoying…but you know, ask a question that’s been asked before and you’re told to use the search function. Use that search function, learn but have a couple other quick questions to bring up within that topic, and you get in trouble for bringing it back from the dead.
It’s a lose-lose situation for the new folks, kinda sad.
I enjoy going back and reading some of the old threads. I haven’t been on the forum for very long, so it is informative for me.
If an old thread generates more questions in my mind, then I re-post a new thread and start over.
Darrell, searching quietly…for now
If so, they’re better at searching than many of us are. I haven’t had any luck with the search engine here.
I found myself doing it the other day - there was a long thread, and I asked a specific question of one of the respondants of the thread, only to realize his post was a year ago. Odds are, he isn’t exactly following the thread anymore! I felt silly…
I am not angered or upset, I was asking more as a tongue in cheek thread, and I do see the value of returning an old thread at times, things can change in how we do things etc. In the server mailing lists I used to read, we would bring up old emails to clarify or correct any incorrect, or new ways of attacking the problem.
That said, I want to see Spacemouses first post [;)]
I don’t understand why anyone would get upset if another user resurrects an old thread, particularly if there’s additional information being contributed. There aren’t all that many active threads at any one time.
We can all use the input from others. That’s the reason for this after all.
And in at least one case, I was totally oblivious to a really useful piece of information until it had been resurrected by someone else.

I think long weekends bring about a return of old topics and slow posting days. It’s a rerun happening again, though some aren’t too bad…
i love old topics, like thsi one was just brought up again, an old topic
It’s only a week old, hasn’t aged yet to be a classic [;)]
Think I will throw some yeast in and let it ferment a little longer, whine anyone???
[#ditto] I have poor luck with the search engine myself.[:I]

Here’s SpaceMouse’s first post! http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27102
Thanks a lot, you had me searching for my first posts and all… I completely forgot everything I started as, because it is much different compared to how I act on the forums today.[:D]
I wondered about this… but I’ve only been here a couple of weeks and I’m having enough fun keeping up let alone going back a year or so… IS THERE AN INDEX OF TOPICS? If there is I won’t need to ask questions that have already been dealt with.
I MUST SAY THAT THIS SITE IS BRILLIANT AND EVERYBODY REALLY HELPFUL. SO FAR EVERY QUESTION I’VE POSTED HAS HAD A GOOD ANSWER… THANKS EVERYONE.

There is a search function that is pretty good. But you have to know what you are looking for.
ON a side note: I was wondering where this topic was. I was getting a severe case of Deja Vu all over again.

OK, I’ll be quiet now
