I love Lightning Stripes!

Just got a Walthers F7 AB DCC pair in New York Central Lightning Stripes. Looks good next to my Broadway Limited AB Sharks!

Doggone it, those are some beautiful locomotives. Very nice photos as well.

I like the look of the F units better than the Sharks… Personal preference I guess…

That might be worth starting a thread over, Neal.

Here are two of mine, in passenger and freight schemes!

Yes! A whole thread about the New York Central

Lightning stripes weren’t just for diesels!

They do seem to be perfectly suited to the Alco PA, though!

I’ve got a twin to your 3503:

These F3 passenger engines were purchased with the intention of using them on the steeper grades of the Boston & Albany. Once the E7s were in general use they seemed to tackle the grades just fine and the F3s were relegated to the Big Four.

That P-2b is gorgeous! Love those front “porches”. What, no third rail? :}

Pretty FA1s with their usual drag freight.

Even the workhorse RS3s looked good in Lightning Stripes.

Short-lived C Liners fresh from the manufacturer.

Yeah, I thought about that. I’d like to find somebody that might 3D print the rail brackets and I could add strip wood (that’s all you see on the NYC 'under running third rail anyway) and I’d place a few lengths just for photo shoots.

Don’t tell anyone but I have some PRR and New Haven stuff that also has third rail shoes  I won’t sully the pages here on the NYC thread.

How about some Cleveland Union Terminal action, though?

I love those CUT electrics. Truth be told, I bought a string of Rapido New Haven AF cars and a NH FL9 to pull them. Then Rapido came out with that gorgeous EP-5 and I couldn’t resist. We don’t need no stinkin third rail or catenary.

I would place the NH McGinnis scheme as a close second to the lightning stripes. At least for us easterners.

I know this is high heresy, both as a New Yorker and in a lightning stripes thread, but I enjoy the NH and both the McGinnis scheme and the earlier green/gold scheme more than the Lightning stripes, which are an admittedly close third for me. Alright, you can go ahead and end me now lol!

That locomotive sat in the weeds north of Croton/Harmon for the longest time in the early 1970s, past the time the FL9s took over most of the trains. I thought it would have been preserved, and to this day I don’t really understand why it was not.

I suppose it’s a pity NYC got so burned by the Gerties… please do NOT show them in lightning stripes… that it did not get any DR-6-4-2000s. Now that in A-B-A trim would have been lightning indeed!

Yeah, but you have to admit those “Gerties” were kind of cute. They could never compete with the EMD E units.

@gmpullman , I’ve always loved those electric P2s of yours. They would make no kind of sense on my west coast NP, GN & SP&S layout, but I would run one anyway if there were decent models of it I could afford. They’re so cool… like a short locomotive on a long surfboard.

Any reaSON YOU WOULDN’T WANT TO RUN ONE OF THESE?

Or you could sneak in a Little Joe here and there?

@gmpullman , ha, Ed, those are nice indeed, and I think my local guy has even had one of the top ones for sale once. I’ve never heard of the Little Joe, is that just a shorter version with a single pantograph? Anyway, very compelling and I always love the curves of the F-unit. But…

…that P2 is so weird and wonderful swinging along with those fore and aft decks. When you get tired of your P2 you can sell it to me at the fellow-forum-member discount.
